The misconceptions that people have of manga are starting to annoy me. I dislike the opinions people have of manga, who know nothing of it, such as:

-Japanese characters running around making ******ed faces
-Anime/Manga/Those "asian" shows are for nerds
-"Haaah! I can shoot fire out of my hands!"

^I can't really think of anything specific and more descriptive, because I'm just going by the general misunderstandings of manga and anime.
We all know that these stereotypes are false, but I'm guessing we all get annoyed at how people can take these stereotypes too far.

Feel free to post more examples of these stereotypes, and general situations regarding these yourselves.

Gaaaah! Why are there so many panty-shots?

TBH, sometimes it's a perfectly valid complaint. Manga contains significantly too many panty-shots.

Well the same thing could be done with comics :

-Japanese characters running around making ******ed faces.
-American superheroes flying around wearing ******ed clothes.

-Anime/Manga/Those "asian" shows are for nerds
    -Comics are for nerds

-"Haaah! I can shoot fire out of my hands!"
-"Haaah! I can throw spiderwebs out of my hands!"

Both have the same constraints from starters : obey to the comic/shonen/shojo/seinen/younameit rules, while twisting the story around them so that the reader isn' t bored to death at the first volume. Maybe lots of people see them as over-stereotyped cause they are indeed ? It doesn' t prevent me to think that some of them are genius (Evangelion, Akira, GTO, One Piece) because they succeeded at constantly surprising me, despite the fact that they all follow the shonen code to the letter.

European comics aren' t deprived of rules or genres, but they have much more freedom in their narrative structure.

My cousin' s husband loves mangas as much as I do. We were talking about mangas once, she heard us and asked something like : "How can you think that such immature readings are interesting ?" I replied : "Some of them are pretty stupid, just pure entertainment, but some can be pretty smart too. There' s no difference between how good a manga or a movie can be. Now YOU tell me, why should the tabloids you enjoy so much be considered as a much more mature reading ?"
That shut her up for good.

    Sometimes?
It never is you silly mascot

The only people who watch anime and read manga at my school are me and my group of friends, as well as a few people in other grades. People generally don't make fun of us for this, since a lot of people at my school are open to different things. Though, the only one person who has is this girl in my creative writing class who believes it's for "losers" only. It used to bother me, but then I just grew to stop caring. I figured everyone's got something they like that other people wouldn't, so it shouldn't bother me if people are "u iz such a lozer and nurd" when they've probably got secret things that the group of people they try to be make fun of them for it.

Two words: Zombie panty-shots. (Closer to 2.5, but whatever.)

Alongside the panty-shots a common complaint is the egregious breast sizes of some characters.

Funnily enough, I haven't had the 'immature' argument used against me yet. Probably something to do with Narutaru.

Well Japan invented the tentacle because it wasn't allowed to show two people. Quite ingenious, really.

A lot of people that meet nowadays, who have never read a manga or watched an anime, seem to think something like this whenever I bring the subject up.

I thought it's because in Japan, showing male nudity is illegal while there's no regulations on female nudity. Talk about double standards. Not that I mind it, though.

It gets significantly more awkward when what you read does include tentacle rape. Good luck trying to convince people that you're reading it for the characterisation and story.

Whenever I ask them about anime, they automatically call me a pervert.

    It's true, but still.
