I'm glad that they're finally trying this; having to decide what platform to get multiplayer games has always been super annoying, because I almost always want to play them on PC where they're usually the best looking and best performing, but there have been so few cross-platform games sadly.

The only genre I can see that being bad for is FPS, but even then, they should put options in the matchmaking for whether people want to play between those platforms.

Good on you, Microsoft. Now stop the app thing on PC.

I don't even think it would be "that" big of a deal with FPS games. I say this because there are more factors in getting killed in one of those games that have nothing to do with the controller being used, or if a keyboard/mouse is being used. Most professional FPS leagues on console allows specific brands of modified controllers (look up SCUF) that allow buttons to be relocated on the back so you don't have to take your thumbs off the sticks. Most pros in certain games will use these, but not all of them. This means that one is perfectly capable of beating someone with different equipment or preferences. I know that mouse/keyboard is statically better in an isolated situation, however for casuals (which is almost always the majority) it won't matter.

That's why I like the idea of having options in matchmaking for what platforms you're playing with. By giving people choices, they don't really have grounds to complain about games being unfair, and I just like having more control available in general.

I remember reading about SCUF controllers. A good idea altogether.

Anyway, I'm really glad Rocket League got as big as it is to finally push Microsoft over to this decision. I'm certain there have been other games before that were nudging them toward it, but not as successful as Rocket League.
