I hear this EVERYWHERE, but no one can give me solid evidence as to why it's true. Is this just a commonly accepted misconception, or is there something I keep missing?

Yea, there isn't any solid proof of how he got it but Mickey's Keyblade is from the realm of darkness and is the counterpart to Sora's Keyblade which is of the realm of light. They were created
    when Aqua destroyed the X-Blade

I'm not looking for proof as to how he got it, only that it is from the Realm of Darkness. Is there proof in BBS? Because I've been avoiding spoilers for that, so I wouldn't know, and I've been hearing this LONG before BBS!

The only thing I can think of is that during BBS
king mickey had the star seeker keyblade
and people say if you can use a keyblade one is already made for you, so maybe king mickey knew that the anti-version of the kingdom key was his when he saw it. Which is when he needed it, also can you lock a keyhole from the relm of darkness with a light keyblade maybe thats another reason for king mickey's keyblade.

So is there any solid proof? *ignoring spoiler as I plan on playing BBS* If not, I'm writing it off in my head as false until proof is given. Until getting close to Riku in CoM, Mickey believed that Darkness was all bad, why would he wield its Keyblade, and why would it choose him?

Assuming all this is true, that could be the exact reason it chose him. To show him that not all darkness was bad.

He needed a key opossite to Sora's to close KH in KH1.
So he went to Dark realm to get one, because Sora had the Light version.

Really, not hard to understand =|

Strong heart, the same reason all other keys choose people.

    I don't think it is.
But it would be awesome if so.

The Keyblade isn't bad just because it uses darkness.
Remember that something can use the power of darkness and be good, like an anti-hero or whatever it's called.
The keyblade has the power of darkness, but like any other weapon, it's up to the person to decide how to use.
"One legend says the wielder saved the world, another says he destroyed it"
    or whatever the quote was.

Wasn't it also that the only way to close the door at the end of KH1, you need to seal it from both Realm of Light and Realm of Darkness?

That! That is what I keep hearing. Where does it say that? It only says "two hearts and two keys". It does not say "two hearts, one dark key, and one light key".

    False!
You mean this is Vanitas keyblade?
    NO WAY.
Next thing you tell us is that Mickey will be the demon overlord. xD

Like Bueno said, the weapon just choses it's wielder be for good or for bad ._.

A keyblade can be of the Light realm and be used by a bad guy
A keyblade can be of the Darkness realm and be used by a Hero, like Mickey...

Yeah pretty much, they keys don't actually care if you're good or evil, just how powerful you are.

Wasn't it stated in a cutscene in KH2 aswell that Mickey's keyblade WAS from the darkness relm?

Technically VEN destroyed the X-Blade. I'm not gonna go into details as to avoid spoilers for everyone who doesn't know the whole story but VEN destroyed it and since he was fighting
Vanitas who is made from his darkness and since his heart is made solely of light
the Kingdom Key and Kingdom Key D were made.

The only REAL proof that I found (other than BBS since I didn't play that yet) was in Days for the DS. When you unlock Mickey in Mission Mode, his weapon is called "Kingdom Key D". (I can assume that the D stands for Dark or Darkness.) I haven't played in a while, but I'm pretty sure that the description for that weapon read "The dark side of Kingdom Key." Or "The keyblade of darkness." (or something like that.) However it's worded, it does mention darkness.

In xehanorts report 6 for BBS it says "There are three families of keyblades: keyblades of light, keyblades of darkness, and keyblades of heart...*
Im guessing that in the realm of light it chosed sora to be its wielder and the realm of darkness chosed mickey to be its wielder. And since theres another realm, the realm of "twilight" (For example twilight town isnt in the realm of light nor darkness but in Twilight) it chosed riku to be its wielder. now the keyblade of heart has to do with the 7 princesses but I think it could also go to Kairi since she too is a princess and could have the keyblade as we saw in KHII.

    ahem.

there are 3 types of Keyblades. keyblades of light, of dark, and of heart. the keyblades of light and darkness are found in there respective realms and are "twins" to there counter parts (so to speak). so with that being said. Sora's kingdom key is a key blade of the realm of light. and mickey (some how got into the realm of darkness...maybe im blanking but i dont remember how he got there...or this hasnt been covered yet. whatever he was there) found the "twin" to Sora's keyblade.

so with that being said its basically chance that mickey and sora have twin keyblades. (harry potter reference? lolwut) the point is

1)mickey has the kingdom key of the realm of darkness
2)sora has the kingdom key of the realm of light

and im sure that these two different keys will be a key to the plot of KH3 (like that pun >D )

that would kake sense but remember that the attack power for kingdom key was grade D in chain of memories, so it could just be a weaker version of kingdom key.

That was just for gameplay purposes, since that's the basic key Sora starts with. I don't think it means anything story-wise.

I thought it was said in a report or something that there was no significant difference in the keys, regardless of which realm they belonged to. Meaning that it doesn't matter that Mickey's darkside key is from the realm of darkness.

It may be used in future installments, but for now, it's not important.
