Mickey Through the Years (KINGDOM HEARTS Related)

Hey everyone, GameSpot has recently updated with an article regarding Mickey Mouse's past, which is titled as "Mikey Through the Years".

Although it mainly focuses on this famous mouse, KINGDOM HEARTS is mentioned as a past event for this Disney star that hasn't been forgotten. It's possible that it was Kingdom Hearts that made Mickey Mouse active in the gaming series today. "It wasn't until the release of Kingdom Hearts in 2002 that Mickey was suddenly made relevant to a modern gaming audience."

Unfortunately, after the release of Mickey Mania, Mickey Mouse games trailed off in terms of both the number of games released and the general quality. There were some attempts to bring him into different genres, such as kart racing and old-school adventures, but they weren't very good. As a result, Mickey Mouse's video game cachet plummeted, and his role was relegated to that of a marketing tool to give mediocre games extra exposure. It wasn't until the release of Kingdom Hearts in 2002 that Mickey was suddenly made relevant to a modern gaming audience. Granted, Kingdom Hearts wasn't a Mickey-specific game, but his dramatic reveal combined with clever integration of various Disney properties gave hope that, in the hands of the right developer, Mickey could once again star in his own game--one that would continue the excellence set by Sega and Capcom in previous years.

Epic Mickey surely brought a lot of attention back to Mickey. IGN had a similar article some time ago.

I think it was very sweet, brought back memories. And Epic Mickey is, well...epic. XD

Ah, I want to play Epic Mickey, but I don't want to buy a Wii just for that. :/ Well, he's pretty epic in Kingdom Hearts anyway!!
