This one's for the Metal fans of the site. When I say Metal, I'm including all sub-genre's (Thrash, Speed, Death, etc.). You could include Rock in here, since that's where Metal originated.

So, What are your opinions of one of the heaviest musical style's?

To me, The heavier the better. That being said, I absolutely dread the Death Metal vocal. It just ruins the song for me.

So long as its music, it doesn't matter what genre it is. I'm not too fond of Death Metal or "Thrash" Metal but I'll listen to them on occasion. Anyways, it doesn't really matter if someone likes Metal or not, it's still music. Just the same as how someone can hate most mainstream music(or certain talentless teens) and call it garbage and such, it's still music by the end of the day. Personally, I love Metal, Rock, Classical, Flamenco-styled music, and just about anything involving a guitar.

Thank you. I deal with people all the time who'll get all PO'd because I don't listen to rap, pop, or certain talentless teens. If everyone saw it like you did then there wouldn't be so much fighting over music (and trust me, there's more fighting about it then you'd think).

To go along with this, there are people who do listen to rap, pop, and those talentless teens who hate when people tell them they have horrible taste, simply because they listen to mainstream.

Just like Terra said, I'm not much of a fan of Metal, but I do listen to a bit. I don't like the heavier stuff, but I do listen to it in moderation.

And I respect whatever musical tastes a person has (and I'm sorry if I sounded like I didn't respect them). I just hate dealing with people who try and force you to "Convert" to their genre is all I'm saying.

I love metal. It's about (literally) all I listen to. I can't really get into other genres besides rock.

Power, Progressive, Death, Doom, Black, Melodic, Symphonic, Thrash, etc. Looove growling, screaming and clean vocals. Also when they're mixed together in songs. I prefer Melodic Death over normal Death, but it just depends on the guitar melodies.

And if you like Power Metal, you should try out Angra. They're a pretty good band. They have a nice vocalist and some pretty good solos.

EDIT: I think my signature expresses my love as well.

Also, Thanks for the recommendation, I think I'll go check them out now.

Might as well put my two cents in.

Despite what people may think of a song or how many people like it, so long as it exists it is music. Music doesn't even need conventional instruments or words to be music, which is the awesome thing about it. So even though I hate the mainstream music and wish that most of it would disappear, I cannot deny the fact that it is music. Just really bad music. And since I'd hate it for anyone to go on about how my music choices suck I won't do the same.

And, like said already, people will hate metal and wish that it didn't exist, but they can make no valid, logical argument that it is not music.

Personally, I don't characterize Techno as music, because it's computer generated (unless you've used a synth/keyboard, though I still believe that it's far too digitalized to be called music, but it's mostly because I really, really despise it)
    Anyway, enough trolling.
Metal is definitely music, if you listen to the guitar, especially the solos, they play in scales, which is musical theory. Also, metal bands are usually the most musically talented bands there are. I don't like black metal or speed metal, but it is music, nonetheless. If you have listened to some metal bands play acoustic, you can hear many of the growlers are really good singers too(!)

A lot of composing goes into techno. o:

Anyway, it's hard to define what 'music' is. I could clatter some pots and pans together and call it music. Would it be very good music, probably not, but the most fundamental description of music is the collaboration of sounds, which it would be. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what not. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean its value is diminished.

I used to be big on Metal terms of music, most of it was just people screaming in the microphone and harmonized guitar harmonies that sounded dark and distilled. Now, I listen to mix of everything, techno, indie, rock, rap, pop, mainstream, anything.
I really like Dubstep. It's my new love in life.

Anyway, I think it's your opinion that matters, not what other's think. When people go "EW YOUR MUSIC TASTE SUCKS. >:c", find someone else that appreciates your music taste. :3
    That's my say!

    Well, of course, that's why I added 'I don't'
I know every song is composed, it's just that I don't really "feel" techno or trance or "whatshammacallit." Music that makes me feel or think is what I consider "music" (I can't say it goes for everything I listen to). That's in my opinion what characterizes great music - Music that makes you feel something and I have yet to find a techno song that does that.
(Techno might make some people feel happy or pumped, but if it doesn't do that for me... well, then I don't really care about it, which is why I don't listen to most pop music, with some exceptions. But I mean, there are so many genres it's difficult to be precise, I listen to so-called power-pop/pop punk, which I would easily put in rock, for example All Time Low.)

I remember the days when all I would listen to was metal xD. But after some time, I decided to expand the scope of musical interests and if it weren't for that, I would probably wouldn't have found most of my favorite bands and artist nowadays. While I still listen to the metal every now and then, I listen to a little bit of everything nowadays.

Does it really matter in the end if the sound is too "digitalized"? Sure the sound of electronic music is much more synthetic than say the sound of a wailing guitar but like all music, you'll find that it shares common elements like pitch, rhythm, dynamics, texture, and timbre.

I love metal, alot of stuff I'll admit i don't listen to but i listen to alot of rock style, things, Death metal, i absolutely love deathcore and metalcore, just not the bands that have like a pop sound to it, ew, you can say im a metal/core head, i really don't like power metal either, i don't like alot of rap or anything, but there are some artists and songs i'll listen to, like that one eprson said, it's all music in the end, if you like it or not.
