No Thanks Members - Alphabetical Order

If you guys are willing to give it a try, I found something you could use to get the members online to show alphabetically again.

I'm fairly sure this refers to Staff Online Now, Members Online Now, and Who's Online.

 

Right now it's sorted by who was last active--so, for example, if I was viewing the index at 10:40AM, Joe was reading a thread at 10:45AM, and Bob was changing his signature at 10:50AM, we would be sorted on the online list at 10:50AM as: Misty, Joe, Bob. To be honest I think this is a more efficient system than alphabetical order.

 

How'd you pick those times for the example? Haha! And whereas on vBulletin, it would be Bob, Joe, Misty.

Anyway, yeah, it goes by last active. I was just asking because I seem to remember other members posting that they liked the alphabetical order better in one of the feedback threads that was created when XenForo was still relatively new to us.

How would you say this is more efficient, out of curiosity? If you need to contact a staff member, for example, you would contact the one more towards the top? Or is it something else that makes it more efficient in your opinion? :)

 

Exactly, it gives you an indicator of who might have just left their browser window open, or is just sporadically checking the index, as opposed to someone who is actively browsing the site.

 

While you may disappear from the Staff / Members Online Now list after 15 minutes of inactivity, it's still pretty nifty. I definitely see your point and fully agree with it.

I just realized. I think a mistake was made here.

Wouldn't it be Bob (10:50 AM), Joe (10:45 AM), and you (10:40 AM), which, ironically, just happens to be alphabetical?

Let's try this: if I'm viewing the latest content at 10:30 AM and you're viewing the forum list at 10:40 AM, it would be Misty, Amaury, whereas on vBulletin, it would be Amaury, Misty.

Like I said, though, I definitely see your point and fully agree with it.

 

A little off from the original topic, but if possible, also the ability to view only members, only guests, or both on Current Visitors (Who's Online).
