She sneaked along the alleyway in the darkness that had settled over Destiny Islands as night drew in. She was careful to keep her footsteps quiet and keep out of sight. She reached the house she visited every evening and settled against a dustbin, sitting on a rotting cardboard box.
Raising her blue eyes to the second floor window that was facing her, the redhead smiled. Her target hadn't drawn his curtains yet and his bathroom light was still on which probably meant he was brushing his teeth before changing for bed.
"Sora!" She could hear a woman calling, but didn't know who the woman was calling. "Sora! It's time to come back in now, you've got to be up early for school!"
"Aw, alright." She heard a male voice sigh, "G'night Riku."
The redhead craned her neck to see who this 'Sora' was, but she still couldn't see.
"See you tomorrow, loser." Another boy said, laughing. She guessed that this must be Riku.
The pretty redhead waited for a while longer until she saw her target get into bed, she sighed and headed off to the beach. She'd miss him when she left, they'd never talked and she didn't know his name but she'd been sneaking out at night to see him, and was pretty sure she was falling for him. And when she fell, she fell hard.

"Attention residents of Destiny Islands! Attention!" The announcement blared all over the island from the mayor's house to the beach. "The mayor's daughter is missing! I repeat, the mayor's daughter is missing! She must be found!"
Sitting in a crook on the trunk of a paopu tree, Kairi bit her lip. She wondered what it would be like for her to live a life without rules, to not be treated like she was some sort of royalty when she wasn't. Her best friend Selphie would love it though, if it were her. This was why Kairi simply had to run away, she couldn't cope anymore. The pressure to be perfect was getting out of hand. Kairi was not a Princess and she wasn't perfect, she needed to cast all of the fear and doubt out of her heart. It was weighing her down too much.

As the sun rose, Kairi saw him silhouetted against the rising sun. His spiky hair slightly bouncing in the wind and he was running towards her. He reached her in a short space of time took one look and wheeled back around, opening his mouth to shout that he'd found her.
"No! Don't!" Kairi hissed, leaping off the tree trunk.
The boy spun back around, "Why? Don't you want to be back home?"
Kairi bit her lip as tears started to form in her eyes, "Home just isn't...home anymore." she whispered.
"I'm sorry." The boy placed his arm around her shoulders to comfort her, but quickly withdrew it. On Kairi's fourteenth birthday, a husband would be chosen for her to marry when she turned sixteen. The boy shuddered, it must be hard to deal with that. "Miss, please. We need to get you back home before your father calls in the police."
"I hope he does that, and I also hope they never find me!" Kairi protested. The boy didn't seem bothered, but just ran his fingers through his hair.
"But...why though?" He asked, looking at her with his blue eyes.
    "Excuse me?"
"Why do you want to run away?" He asked, edging a little bit closer.
"Because..." Kairi cut herself off as she heard footsteps coming towards them and people calling her name. Seizing the boy by his wrist she pulled him into a cave she'd found. Kairi liked this cave, there was a wooden door inside it that never opened. There was also the bonus that nobody knew about it either.
"Miss?" The boy sounded uncertain as he stood away from her, looking at the cave.
"Stop calling me that!" Kairi almost shouted, then lowering her voice, "It's Kairi."
"Kairi..." The boy rolled out the name on his tongue as if tasting it, "I'm Sora."

If anyone likes this, I'll write some more soon.

Pretty good so far! Plus it only uses the same characters and background, not a continued story from the original video game!
    WRITE MORE! :D

EDIT: I just LOVE the creativity corner!

"Sora." Kairi looked at the boy she'd dragged into the cave with her, "Nice to meet you."
Sora stared at her as if seeing her properly for the first time. His eyes travelled from her neck downwards and then back up to her face, he wanted to ask Kairi another question about her desire to run away but kept his mouth shut. He turned his head away from Kairi and huddled in a corner.
"Sora?" His head turned as he looked over at Kairi.
    "Yes?"
"Have you ever felt like...everyone just wants you to be perfect?" she asked, staring at him huddled into his corner.
"Well...yeah. I think everyone goes through that at some point in their lives, but you don't have to change really." Sora replied, his voice not more than a whisper. He knew he was quoting something his mother had told him before, but he didn't feel the slightest bit stupid about it at all. "Kairi? Can I ask what's making you want to run away?"
Kairi was startled by his question but did not answer it, it was too personal and she didn't want to share it with a complete stranger.
    "Kairi?"
"We've only just met. And I don't want to talk about it." Her voice was harsh, yet Sora respected her for not being too trusting.
"Hey, Kairi. How about we get to know each other for a while? If you're hiding out here then... you might need someone outside of this cave. I could bring you food and stuff." Sora ran his hand through his hair again, thinking of what would happen if Kairi started living in this cave. Her refusal to go home had shown him something was there that he may not have guessed by just looking at her.
They spent the next hour talking about each other and what they liked to do, before Sora got up and left promising he'd return shortly with food and bedding for her. They'd worked out how Kairi could get her parents to drop the over-protective act. Well, Sora thought they had.

At midday, Sora's lunch was interrupted by his friend Riku, calling an apology to his parents he took some money and walked out of his house.
"Still no sign of her, everyone's thinking kidnap." Riku said as they walked toward the beach.
"Who?" Sora asked, his mind still lingering on Kairi.
"The mayor's daughter. Last thing anyone saw of her, she was going to bed. And then we had to get up and look for her this morning, remember?"
    "Oh...yeah."
Riku laughed, "Honestly Sora, if you went any slower, you'd be going backwards."
Sora laughed as they continued walking before realising where they were heading. "Riku, can we go into the town? I need to get some stuff."
"Sure." Riku took a path that lead away from the beach and Sora followed him to the shops.
Sora spent a great deal of time, looking for food to give to Kairi. He bought some food, but ended up spending all his money on a necklace.
"Sora? You know that's a girl's necklace, right?" Riku asked, staring curiously at his friend. Sora looked at the small crystal orb attached to a length of black material and nodded, he wasn't going to tell Riku about Kairi at all. In answer to Riku's questioning gaze he simply said "It's a present for my mother."
As they walked back to their homes, eating ice cream, Sora thought about how he was going to sneak bedding out to the cave. He came up with a few plans, each one with a flaw, but in the end. He was going to have to get someone's help.
    "Riku?"
    "What do you want?"
"Well... is there anyway you can help me take some stuff down to the beach tonight?"
Riku shook his head in disbelief, his silver hair fluttering in the wind and fixed his aqua eyes onto Sora. "Why?"
"I want to camp out there tonight." Sora answered, quickly so Riku wouldn't be able to tell he was lying.
"I'll come with you, you never know... might be fun."
"No! I want to go alone." Sora snapped at his friend, who just stared at him again. He was acting weird and it had something to do with wherever he was this morning, Riku could put two and two together quite easily but he didn't know what had happened to his friend.
"Okay, I'll help." Riku sighed, "But you'll owe me."

I didn't want to just continue where the game left off, or write about Riku, Sora and Kairi going off on an adventure. So I just decided to use the same characters and background. I'm glad you like it and I hope you'll continue to read it since I do have a suprise in store somewhere.

Glad you like it =D and you'll have to wait and see, Riku already has guessed there's something going on with Sora, so you can bet he's going to try to find out what it is. Oh, and I'll update soon with the next chapter, either a new post (if someone replies again) or added onto this post.

That night, Sora and Riku made their way down to the beach with Sora's camping equipment. Sora was looking around nervously, trying to spot Kairi. Riku was trying not to notice the way his friend was acting, almost like a restless puppy, but he couldn't hide it any longer when something fell out of Sora's pocket.
"Hey Sora..." Sora turned to see Riku standing away from him.
    "What's the matter Riku?"
"You dropped something," Riku stooped down and picked up the thing, recognising it at once as the necklace Sora had bought. "Hey! I thought you said this was for your mother!"
Sora raced up to Riku and snatched the necklace out of his hands, for a moment they both stared at each other shocked.
"Sora, what's going on?" Riku asked carefully, watching a pink blush slowly creep along his friend's cheeks.
"I... don't know." Sora whispered, he still was not going to reveal Kairi's location. Not even to Riku, who he would trust with his life.
"You know, I saw the way you were looking at her today." Riku commented, thinking to when they'd bumped into Selphie.
    "Ahh...."
"Sora, 'ahh' is not an answer here. Let me guess, you love her, right?" Riku laughed.
Sora slowly nodded, seeing a small way out of his problems, "Yes. I do." Riku nodded to show he understood Sora's situation and layed down Sora's sleeping bag under the stars.

Meanwhile, in her cave Kairi was crying silently. Sora's words had struck her like a dagger thrust into her heart. He was in love with another girl, she could never hold him like she'd thought about all those nights when she watched him. Another tear ran down her cheek, a sob accompanying it. She was unaware that Sora was making his way over to her, dragging his sleeping bag across the sand, a rucksack cutting into his shoulders.
Once he got there, he stared at the girl crying. It would be rude to invade on her sorrow, but Sora wanted to do just that. He wanted to tell her it was all going to be okay, but his presence could scare her. The more he watched her, the more he thought that she reminded him of a mouse. He came up towards her, until he was standing in front of her. "Kairi?"
Kairi raised her head slightly, "Oh...hi."
"Kairi, are you okay?" he half-whispered, letting go of the sleeping back and sinking to the floor.
"Yes, thank you." Kairi answered, her voice still so polite.
"You don't have to lie to me. What's wrong?" He threw an arm around her as a comfort, still keeping her at a distance.
"Oh, he said he loves another. He told her to wait but he will not." Kairi sighed, speaking in the poshest way she could so Sora wouldn't know who she was talking about.
"Kairi... you deserve better. Go to this boy and tell him that!"
    "I would, if I wasn't so afraid."
    "Afraid? Of what?"
    "Afraid that he'll leave."
Sora sighed again, "Trust me Kairi. You want a guy like that to leave."
Kairi wiped her eyes, nodded then looked up at him again. "How will this work?" she asked.
"Oh, right!" Sora withdrew his arm from her shoulders and stood by the sleeping bag. "Right, I've had to pretend I'm camping out here tonight... but look in the rucksack."
Kairi rummaged through the rucksack and found another sleeping bag and the food he'd promised he'd bring. She smiled up at him and he smiled back. "Sora, thank you."
"No problem, I wanted to help." Sora answered, helping her to lay down her sleeping bag.
"I should thank you...." Kairi muttered.
"No, you really don't need to." Sora protested, clutching the necklace in his pocket. Kairi shook her head, stood up and hugged him. Sora wrapped his arms around the girl as tightly as he could, taking in the scent of her hair. This was his reward, a hug. He wasn't complaining though as he breathed in deeper to take in more of that subtle scent of flower petals that hung around her. He let go of her and withdrew the necklace from his pocket, fastening it around her neck before he stood back. She looked beautiful to him, more beautiful than any girl in his school even. As the night deepened over Destiny Islands, Sora fell asleep next to her, forgetting that she was the Mayor's daughter and was classified as missing.

The announcement woke him, and he heard footsteps overhead. He took one last look at Kairi and left her sleeping in the cave. He ran down to where he'd first seen her with his sleeping bag and pretended he'd been there all along, Riku ran up to him and asked if he'd seen the Mayor's daughter. Sora told him he hadn't and suggested Riku went to look around by the school, there were some woods near there. Maybe she was hiding out there. Riku left with what seemed like half of the Islands and Sora walked back to Kairi, checking over his shoulder to see if anyone was there.
Little did Sora know, someone had stayed behind instead of checking the forest and he was sitting in a tree watching as Sora made his way across the sand.

Note: You know, I was wondering why nobody had commented xD And then I realised I never finished this chapter d'oh!
He bumped into her when he was shopping with Riku. I didn't put it in because it was a 2 second encounter sort of thing.

Sora sat in the entrance of the cave, watching Kairi sleep. He was starting to feel a little cold as the sea's mist spat at him and the wind hung onto his body, he was tempted to just get back to sleep, lying next to Kairi, but his encounter with Riku had him worried. What if Riku invaded on Sora's new found little world of happiness? It was like living in a whole different world with Kairi, like some bubble of bliss that nobody else could ever pop. He looked over at her again, remembering the hug she'd given him and the smell of her hair. If Sora was as clever as he liked to think, he would have known what was happening to him. The only person who knew what was going on had traced Sora's steps back to the cave and was sitting in a tree watching.

"Sora!" Kairi screamed as the men tried to drag her away. She knew he'd left a few minutes before, but how was she expected to fight off five men on her own? As they pulled on her arms and she dug her feet into the ground, she screamed his name louder than ever in the hope that he could hear her. He didn't come to the cave to help her, neither did anybody else. At last, she surrendered the fight and the men took her back up to the mayor's house.
"Kairi! How dare you sneak off like that? Do you know how worried I was? Do you know what everyone was saying?" The mayor's voice vibrated off the polished wooden floors of Kairi's room. "And then young Tidus, who waited all night for your return was let down by you once again after you failed to meet him!"
    "Father..."
"You've shamed this family, Kairi! What is it that you want so badly, but you can't have? If it's love...go to Tidus. Tell him that you want love."
    "Father! I don't love Tidus!"
The mayor stared at the girl, her short hair falling around her ears and showing off huge blue eyes. He couldn't believe it, she didn't love the person he'd picked out as a potential suitor. Her fourteenth birthday was edging closer and there was only one other person who he actually liked on his list. The mayor bit his lip, he was going to have to ask somebody else and he thought Kairi couldn't refuse this offer.

Riku opened the door to see the mayor standing there. A little shocked, he invited him into his home. The mayor entered and stared from Riku's legs to his face. "What can I do for you sir?" Riku asked, carefully.
"Riku... I come to your house with a request. Will you hear me out?"
    "Yes sir."
"Riku, would you become my daughter's suitor? On her birthday you will be engaged."
Riku sat there, stunned. He was being asked to potentially marry the mayor's daughter? He couldn't wait to tell Sora, surely his friend would be happy about it. Riku sat silently for a few more minutes before answering.
    "I would be delighted to."
"Thank you. My daughter will meet you in our courtyard at six p.m." The mayor stood up and left.

Kairi sat alone, her bedroom door locked, waiting for her father to come back home. She thought about Sora, the cave and how happy she'd been. She wondered if Sora knew that she was back home, if he would come and get her and about what could have happened between them. So many opportunities stolen from her. So many hours that were stolen from Sora's life. 'He should have been happy with someone else, not me.' Kairi thought sadly. She touched the necklace Sora had given her, and just touching it seemed to give her courage. She made her way over to the glass doors leading onto her balcony, opened them and positioned herself on the edge. Kairi took a deep breath, balanced herself better and jumped.
