When Riku/Ansem stabbed Maleficent with the KOPH she went into her dragon form, why? When sora stabbed himself he turned into a heartless so why did she turn into a dragon? and furthermore why did he need to stab her for her to turn into it when she clearly does it on her own in BBS against aqua

It was a last resort, she was filled with the darkness from Ansem's blade, remember he said something about darkness.
So she was more or less forced to form and overflowing with darkness.

Her dragon form was her heartless, it was all her darkness turned into herDragon Form....If that makes sense. But what should be a very needed question is, why doesn't she have a Nobody? Because they are cannon characters. You can't just make Nobodies and Heartless from Cannon characters.

She could have a nobody though. There's nothing stopping Noramura from that.

It was a last and desperate result for her, as Program said.

However, to add to that, Maleficent, basically, had pure evil in her heart, whereas Sora didn't, so it wasn't as easy for him to turn into a dragon or monster or something.

YES THERE IS! She's CANNON! I think thats why.

You don't see Seven Disney Princess Nobodies, only Kairi , becuase she's an OC.
Yes! Thats on my same page!

I thought it was because Meleficent was injured and the keyblade unleased the true power of one's heart, so in her case she turned into her Dragon form and with Sora he released his and Kairi's hearts.

I think Meleficent was too injured to do it by herself so she needed the Keyblades help.

    yeah this would make sense.

another question i have is how did she come back in kh2? i know the fairies said her name and brought her back but that doesn't make sense

This is a good question, however I am unsure. My thoughts are that she thrives on people's fear of her and so when people start thinking of her and fearing her then it brings her back to life. If it's not that then I don't really know, Nomura probably just wanted a way for her to come back to life to help with the plot.

What if the KOPH's had the power to also change a person's into the creature that their heart represents? Maleficent did give into the darkness because she knew what festered there, but my guess is KOPH's unlocks what the wielder desires to do with it such as Riku/Ansem giving Malefient the darkness though the Keyblade whiel Sora had only the intention of releasing Kairi's heart and the captive Princesses Hearts teh formed it.

Think of it like the Elder Wand in HP (Going off topic) but it's alliance probably goes to those who defeat the previous master, plus it was technically a false Keyblade

Maleficent didn't turn into her Heartless, Riku just unlocked the darkness within her. If the dragon was her heartless, how is Maleficent a dragon in BBS then?

I believe that the blade gave her the power to transform.
It most likely has more than one ability, y'know?
Her injuries made it unlikely for her to muster up the power to unleash all of her energy and transform, and the Keyblade of Peoples' Hearts gave her the power to accomplish it as a last-ditch maneuver.

Or, her heart was filled with darkness, which means her "true darkness" was simply her strongest form.

Not false keyblade, it was an incomplete one. Still just as real as the others. But aside from that, this explanation seems the most accurate in my opinion. Maleficent wanted more power, and was given it. Sora wanted to release the heart inside him (Kairi's), but in doing so released his own aswell?

Maybe she had the ability to transform back then but because she lost she lost that ability? Seems like another flaw that Noramura will make another game for. Lol.

Maleficent can normally transform into the dragon by her self as seen in BBS. But when riku/ansem SoD stabed her with that keyblade, it unlocked her heart and darkness within, giving her the ability to become a much powerful version of it.

And I guess Sora just unlocked kairis heart from his.

Its said that the fairies memory of maleficent is what brought her back. Eh I dont understand it either

Its possible that Maleficent is brought back by the memories of powerful people. Being fairies that can do many different kinds of magic they most likely could not help bringing her back.

When Ansem SoD stabber her, the darkness in her heart poured out, and she was trying to get rid of Sora anyway. She turned into the dragon knowing that the darkness that Ansem had awakened inside her would make her far more powerful.

She could turn into a dragon already, regardless of whether she was stabbed. She just wanted to take advantage of her added power.

EDIT: To answer the other question, Maleficent probably had a fail safe in case she ended up being beaten. When the fairies saw her cloak and remembered her, she came back.

It might've just been the manifestation of the faries' fears that brought her back.

Honestly, it's just an inexplicable, multiple possibility, unimportant to Nomura plothole.

Seriously guys? Maleficent is the incarnation of evil. Her name even says so. Evil. She cannot have a Nobody because she is the Darkness, hence why she will never be fully defeated, she is part of the cosmic balance, light without darkness cannot exist, that is why she returned in KH2. Yen Sid, says something about the increasing numbers of Heartless at the beginning of KH2. As darkness grew stronger she was able to came back. This is why the Nobodies at Hollow Bastion did not defeat her even though she was really weak (seriously that woman has lost so much power that is getting ridiculous.)

As for the part with the Keyblade, it only helped her to bring out all of her powers, hence her transformation into a dragon.
