Does the KH series ever experience any type of plot holes? Besides Sora having a screwy memory.

I'm sure there are plot holes, but the overall series can be pretty confusing, everything feels like a plothole (though nothing major is coming to mind). The Xehanort Saga is still in full swing, so while a lot may be unaddressed or unexplained right now, there may still be hope.

I don't remember plot holes, but mostly characters dumbness. They are all dumb in some extent.
Xehanort new about the 7 princess of heart, so why didn't he gone get them to open kingdom hearts? And tried to create an "artificial Princess" (AKA Ventus), all this ways to get to kingdom hearts are somewhat disconected so It seems that they are creating new kingdom hearts each try. Why seek 13 dark seekers and 7 lights, when the princess alone are able to make the way to Kingdom Hearts? It seems like a vanity project.

Sora's actions in Chain f*ck*d up the plot, If it wasn't by his chosing to "go asleep" Roxas would be alive and would have destroyed the fake KIngdom Hearts , and than he would find Sora... That also made 2 or 3 new games to try "solving all things undone in Chain of memories".

I think what botters me the most, is that it seems that when Riku is about to show in any new game, the developers don't talk with the people that made the last game so Riku's resolve is always reboted. You see In the first game Riku gave in to the darkness and was possessed by Ansem Seeker of Darkness. In that point when he was finaly free he "hated the darkness but got stuck with it". ALL the point of reverse rebirth was to Riku aknowlodge his own darnkess, accept it and use it without being enslaved by the darkness or by the fear of darkness. At the and of Chain (even though is keyblade never showed) he finaly finds his way.. the way to the dawn (not light, or darkness, but the middle) and he's able to use a Keyblade. In 358/2 days He is forced to UNLEASH the DARKNESS and gets stuck in the form of Ansem Seeker of Darkness.
Even though he was stuck, because of his path in Reverse Rebirth, he was still Riku wielded the darkness and never lost the Keyblade, he was complete... In KH II they turned him back into Riku's form, that made him stripped from the darkness (why? How? How lame as it was his hability?) He lost the power to use the dark corridors, even though he could use Dark Firaga...
Finaly he get the new Dream Drop Distance... and agains Riku is unsure of the darkness within his heart. (Seriously? You owned the darkness! Even before you got your Keyblade! Even when your body was lost! Even in the realm of darkness! ANd what little darkness he had, was mostly defused by the exploding kingdom hearts.... darkness is there in a level so low that he can't wield it no more, but high enough so it bugs the keyblade :( ...)
Make your mind already! Accept the dark, don't accept, use , don't use it, just not make ALL games that we play as Riku as a quest of escaping than accepting the darkness.

Actually Roxas wasn't strong enough to destroy fake kingdom hearts, so he would've just died at the hands of the organization if Riku hadn't stopped him. As for the 13 dark and 7 light, he needs that to make the X-blade. He probably can't do the same thing he did with Ventus again (maybe it uses up too much power). As for Riku, darkness can be really confusing and it's very easy to be controlled by it.

I know Darkness is trikcy, but for plot consistence It doesn't help that a character have to "remember how to conquer something over and over" , the eternal struggle of light and darkness could still be at play in Riku's heart, but It doesn't need to become a part of the plot again... We all love KH, but with Sora being forced to replay KH I ad infinitum in every new side game, we would at least hope to get new stuff with Riku.
Not to mention that It's preatty much show that since Reverse/Rebirth Riku learned how to wield safely and completely the power of darkness, as even we he was forced to unleash all darkness in his heart and became "Ansem SoD" he was still Riku (Not like in KH I where he lost his will) and was even capable to wield the keyblade..
So I don't think its really necessaire to show another quest of Riku in "controlying darkness" .. It seems to me as they wanted to give Riku a plot, and Sora a plot, because we will need them both in the next games, but they didn't had anything better to put riku to do.

Oh in that case, yeah, it does feel weird that Riku has to keep fighting then controlling the darkness as a plot in almost every game

    1. Xehanort did try to use the Princesses of Heart to get to Kingdom Hearts; isn't that what the entire first game was about? At this point, Xehanort also knows about the threat that the Seven Lights pose, so while part of it could very well be a vanity thing or just creating a battle for the sake of creating a battle, he wants to get rid of this threat in one fell swoop. As we've seen in BBS and 3D, one Xehanort alone was certainly nothing to sneeze at. Thirteen of him will beyond a doubt make things difficult for the Seven Lights.

    2. This answer is mostly based on personal experience: Having some sort of regret or huge mistake in your life seriously weighs down. At times you may think you're free of it, but then it comes crashing down again, sometimes harder than before. Even if you do finally get rid of it, you'll always be doubting and unsure of yourself. Riku fell hard into darkness, and has had a rough time clawing his way up towards light, or even dawn. And from the way he keeps slipping, he's always looking back down out of habit or paranoia. Becoming a Keyblade Master has almost certainly given Riku a pretty big boost up from his darkness and doubt.

    1) Yes he "did" it, as he show Malificent how to do it, and then let her doing it... It's just strange that he did it in BBS, and then "forget about it" he could go looking for the princess since BBS and the trio wouldn't bother him, but he chose to Make that hole plot with Ventus/Vanitas/Terra, and put his other plan in japordy... in the same time he was behind the princess plot also, so he planned to fail? All things we made in all games was for nothing? I mean in KH 2 Xemnas did try to make another Kingdom Hearts, but that was because as a Nobody he had no other way around it (I guess).. but when all the plot of 3D came, and all was show that it was all made to "happen this way", strikes me as Xehanort was aiming for failing so It just bothers me to think that all that we made was bound to fail in Xehanort face in one way or another... So Ventus/Vanitas was for nothing, and even KH2 if we think.... at some point Xehanort gave up on kingdom hearts for pursuing the x-blade, and then KH... as he could make it there with only the princess hearts.

    2) I get it, personal struggle and whatever, In our lives we face moral choices everyday.. but when we are telling a story being it in a video game, book, movie, etc... we just don't "fill it with a bunch of same stuff", as it doesn't helps the plot to develop and it is on its core boring.. imagine If it were the matrix and every new movie Neo had to wake in his appartament and discover again that the matrix is fake and all his previously live as well, than struggle to be free and than again free others... It is a plot inconscitancy and overall dull.

Simple; he got it cut. The action has cultural significance in Japan, denoting a change or turn of heart. In 3D, Riku only appears in his younger form within the Dream Worlds, same as Sora.

KH: 3D was originally supposed to have Riku and Sora in their KH1 outifits. It was supposed to signify that they went back to square one and are re-learning the Keyblade in order to become masters, but Nomura didn't want players to be confused and think it was a remake of KH1, so he changed their outfits.

    Not a plot hole.
