Ok just a quick question/theory on Magic throughout the KH series, in EVERY game i feel like magic has progressively gotten way more important, as far as battles/survivability/damage goes.
In KH i cant ever recall using any magic like ever except for Cure and Aero ofc. i felt as if it didnt really do much and i would rather run up and attack head to head cuz it felt like magic was useless for the most part.
in KHII i used it slightly more, reflect, cure, some thundaga here and there, but nothing too extreme.
in RE com i used it for the range, i wasnt very good at planning my attacks, cuz you couldnt just span keyblade attacks.
in BBS i spammed fire, and thunder ALOT, i felt as if it saved my life alot in that game, making it more relevant to me. especially as Ven.
in DDD i spammed the hell out of everything, everytime a magic spell was off cooldown, BAM i was using it, it did dmg, it was very helpful, stopped enemies in the middle of their combos. my favorite was thundaga, it spanned alot of area around Soras and Riku, and all but stopped an enemy.
Am i just dumb or did magic get way more important as the games progressed? or did i just get away from the hack an slash and think more strategy, im not sure ubt it seems to me that magic has been alot more useful lately

I think it got easier to use overtime more so than it got more important. In kh1 you had to physically hit for it to return mp where as for 2 you just need to run out, com just needs you to have the cards and most of the rest have the command deck system to recharge them. It's not much more important as you can still beat the games with no magic (but with a lot more difficulty probably) but yeah, I think it's just that it's gotten easier to use overall.

I think when you start playing strategically you find more spots where magic comes in handy. That's how it was for me anyway.

In future games I'd like to see magic designed more for utility rather than damage. Blizzard temporarily stuns or slows the enemy's movement, fire could be a gtfo me attack (like in kh2), thunder works as a launcher to start or extend combos, etc. The possibilities are endless. The developers had the right idea in previous games but imho they need to make the utility much greater & the damage much lower. Ultimately this could be a great way to make the game less of a button masher.

(I can't comment on magic in any portable games though because I haven't played them).

I like magic! In KH I , I didn't used as much, as it was kind difficult to use.. another thing is that we only had the MP gauge so everything cost MP, and I would rather use my badass SONIC BLADE than magic, most times, there is a problem in KH I also that there are not shortcuts (If I remmeber correctly) so it was just more difficult to use magic.
In KH2 magic was really easy to use, and it didn't got in the way of using your FORMS /SUMMONS or anything so I would spamm Reflect+ Cure+Magnet (Kills all the nobodies, expecially those with the hockey sticks that would get stuck whithout them and we could kill them using their weapons).
In the handled games there was no MP gauge, so I would link my combos with magic + attacks whithout worring about my MP.
