Hard Mode: On the PS3 or 360
Very Hard Mode: No fighters, sports games, or shooters

    Just need some ideas.

I hear Journey's multiplayer is good (and highly unconventional), though I haven't experienced it firsthand yet.

I also very much enjoy the multiplayer mode in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

My all time favorite couch co-op is Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. PS2 so it doesn't fit in your hard modes, but you just gotta love a game that can say "Death awaits you in the shower" completely seriously.

I've also been partial to racing games for multiplayer in the past, but my friends don't multi much anymore so I haven't played the newer ones. NFS: Carbon would be my favorite in that book though.

Aren't both of those strictly online multiplayer?

    It can only be DDR.
Japanese only PS1 era ones are the only viable ones though.

My lil' cousins had a really good time playing Little Big Planet together on my PS3, it' s the only game I own that made me retrieve my second controller from its dusty shelf. Not that fun if you' ve already played it in solo, but otherwise it' s decent.

Although it's by no means a great game, Lord of the Rings: War in the North was really fun playing through with a friend. It got me through a very boring week of night shifts. Guess I beat very hard mode.

Doesn't that count as a shooter, though? Sure, it's not with a gun that shoots bullets, but you do shoot portals.

    The impossible game.

Edit: Sorry, that's only good for anurism.

A good Multi game is pretty much everything you don't want.

You would have completed the challenge, but unfortunately I already have Portal 2.

    Seconding Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.

I don't have any friends so I don't play local multiplayer much, these days it's just Soul Calibur V and PS All Stars. Sometimes I am forced to play CoD.

Back when my sister would play with me we'd play a lot of sports games (SHAUN PALMER'S PRO SNOWBOARDER MAN THAT GAME IS MY SHIT), Kinetica (weird racing game), Crash Team Racing (on the PSN iirc), and that one Sims game with the multiplayer (Urbz?). All of those are last gen tho.

Speaking of Soul Calibur V, we should totes play that again...when I have the game...and my lag doesn't suck so much.

I remember Kinetica. Dudes in weird motorcycle suits. But yeah, its been difficult finding current gen multiplayer games that don't rely on online ;\

    The game part is easy. The lag part, I have no clue how to fix. I've already changed my ISP ;.;

Playstation All-Stars. My favorite fighter at the moment. The roster is (mostly) well balanced, and it's great for multiplayer both locally and online. Also, the Forza Motorsport racing series has really solid titles with deep driving mechanics and great local multiplayer.

Fighters get dull quickly with some of my friends since I always end up beating everyone.

That's why I dislike fighters, someones always better depending on the game, im dreadful at SF and DoA but when it comes to Tekken and Soul Calibur i'm almost unbeatable, makes it pointless to play with friends because we all already know who's gonna win at what.
