I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'm an AMV newbie and my search didn't find "lip sync" anywhere in this forum. I'm using WMM, so is there any way to lip sync characters' mouths with songs or outside dialogue (i.e. trailer audio)? Or do I have to get a different editing program?

I've done some lip synching with WMM, all you need to do is find the right clips and get the timing perfect.

It's really hard to get lip syncing in WMM, but what I suggest at times when it's not talking for a while, take a screenshot of the character with the character's mouth shut, then show that picture when you don't want it to talk.
like in my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34_l4DQ4zqw if you look at :12 - :13 you can see that it was a screenshot during that time of no talking.

Timing is important and getting lucky with the clips is part of lip syncing too.

It's tough. Try watching all the cutscenes with the sound muted. Thats what I did.

Thanks guys! It might be a while til I even need to use it, but since everyone else seems to know how I might as well use it too. :)

So I finally uploaded my first AMV...search for "bridge over troubled water" in the portal and comment if you're not feeling too lazy!

You can always use screenshots and use them when the characters aren't speaking. A good program to take out subs is Sony Vegas,Adobe Premiere etc. There, you can crop the screen until the subs are gone. Anyways, use screenshots when they aren't talking, or depending on what they are saying just slow the motion of the mouth down to make it match. It's all about mixing and matching different images and footage.
