    Update:

    Made it to Viridian Forest.

    Along the way, caught a Pidgey (Feather), a Mankey (Mona), and a Pikachu (Pika)

    Then my game froze

    I reset, and I am back at Pallet town before I caught Feather.

    Yes, you do. >:3

    I'd highly recommend generations 1-4 (any game really), and there are plenty of walkthroughs or online tools to help you play without a GBA/DS.
    Then again, your computer sucks so maybe that's not the best idea.
