A few years back, I closed my laptop screen on my headphones and cracked it something bad. Though I can't remember how much the replacement screen cost me, it was pretty easy to fix myself after I had ordered it. Only took a few minutes and a video (that I HAD TO PULL UP ON A DIFFERENT LAPTOP) and I had no idea what I was doing whatsoever prior to actually doing it. Not sure if all you need is a new screen, but if you need the video and website I ordered my screen from, I might be able to find the info somewhere. If it's something beyond that then I'm useless (or if you already more knowledgeable than me on the subject). Regardless, that sucks.
About a month or two after I bought my current laptop there were these weird black marks on the screen. They weren't too big but they were noticeable, honestly looked like a pen had exploded on the screen. They could be moved around a bit by putting force on the screen but they wouldn't go away. Anyway because the laptop was fairly new I contacted the manufacturer to see if they would fix it, they said they would for free and sent me a box and everything to ship it. I read online however that massaging the screen might do the trick. I did that for a while and they decreased in size but they were still present. A couple days later they disappeared and I got a free box from HP. I don't know what the moral of this story is but there you go.
The original article I had was unbelievably helpful, but it'll take me some time to find it. A quick search resulted in this video and this ehow page which to me looks almost exactly like what I remember. http://www.ehow.com/how_4866986_fix-broken-laptop-screen.html It was unbelievably easy to fix. In fact, when my laptop finally died due to hard drive issues, one of the ways I tried fixing it (before I realized it was a hard drive issue) was taking the screen apart several times and trying to see if it was a screen issue...it wasn't, but after disassembling it once, I never forgot how to do it (also, it really helped me clean it). Also, I think this is where I ordered my replacement screen (which lasted me until the death of my laptop two-three years later. Screen continued to work perfectly, but laptop didn't). However, I'm not entirely sure if this is the website, but it seems familiar enough. I'll look harder in the morning, but I'm already half-passed out so...yeah. Hope this helps. EDIT:I lied, that's not where I got my screen. That website has a ten piece minimum for orders, the one I used definitely didn't. Will try to find it really quickly before I fall asleep (but can't guarantee it). I think my screen cost like...125 bucks, though.
So here's my screen. It looks cracked but it's not on the outside? I took a light to it when it was off and it seemed it cracked? There's also colors running down randomly in certain parts.
ouch yeah I've seen that happen. Stating the obvious but it'll need to be replaced lol. Guts of the laptop should prob be okay though, if you're able to hook the laptop up to an external screen then give that a go before you buy a replacement screen just to be sure
That's a damn good idea!!!![DOUBLEPOST=1400314518][/DOUBLEPOST] Hooked it up to HDMI and it's not looking good... It always took forever to boot so I can't tell if it's having boot issues or what... Ya know, because of the seeing thing
So I ordered a screen off eBay for $90. I have a friend who's going to teach me how to change it. After we change it, we'll do more research and make sure everything's fine. Thanks to everyone who posted here- it really cheered me up!
I'm thinking sooner or later I'll have to get a new laptop myself. I don't know when, but I've had mine for around a year now, and it's decent in and of itself, but it's not perfect, and there are little things that are starting to fall apart. Still, considering it was refurbished, I wasn't expecting anything to last like a brand new laptop. Now I just need to find that page I created where misty gave me a list of laptops to look at......hope she at least kept it bookmarked XD.
