Not really much to say, just something that is definitely worth sharing.

I don't understand why people get annoyed with. I had to respond to people on facebook.

I've been following Invisible Children since about 2009 (whenever "The Rescue" happened). I feel like this is definately a cause that people should pay attention to, and it's somethign that the internet's amazing capacity to do good can be used for.

However, I, just as a person who knew about it already, see the line between raising awareness and spamming blurring a little bit. Maybe it's just because I've known about the war and the horrible things happening for so long that I'm a little de-sensetised to it, but ya know.

So yeah, definately get involved if you can, though I'm not too sure on the legality of the "Cover the Night" initative ... and why 4/20, why oh why oh why ...

I watched this just this morning when I was up early. It didn't strike me as much of surprise that such a thing. That's not to say I don't think it's a great concern. It's a terrible thing that is happening. And the people should indeed help. But I just wasn't in as much shock as other people. It's a noble cause but I'm not sure if I'd really help with it.
However I wish them the best of luck and hope that they pull through and have they're freedom. Children should not have to endure such cruel acts by a man who has no purpose but evil.

Literally just saw this on tumblr. I was aware of the sort of criticism IC has had over the years, but not to this degree! I didn't think it was that bad ...

The big problem is that, while yes they have some issues and they maybe go about things the wrong way sometimes ... they're really the only group that I can get behind to support this cause, there really aren't any others.

Honestly didn't know who Kony was until that video.
But I guess that was it's purpose. To make him known so he could be stopped.
Good to see he's getting celebrities to promote it. I'm sure Justin Bieber or Ray William Johnson could get tons of Young supporters.

Whoakay....so just got made aware of what Invisible Children's all about just yesterday night and then I see a second side. I keep forgetting about that second side of every story. Anyway, that's no good. I feel that IC should...probably fix that issue regarding conduct of soldiers and no doubt some things need to be paid for in any organization, but they should probably do things a bit more legitimately. And regarding the Night thing. I was actually thinking about that, whether or not people would have to get permits or something so it's not counted as vandalism or something.

i saw it after i did some research of my own to confirm it too. people are literally fauxtavists. remember all of the celebs who wanted to help with japan? haiti? yeah well now where are they? it's like advocating is a spectacle and now all of a sudden everyone gives a crap on Facebook when i know for sure so many people are ignorant to look up facts. it's this kind of sheep mentality that is going to screw people over.

also, it's not like getting rid of kony will eliminate the problem (even though he is a very bad man). just like killing osama bin laden didn't end terroism. it's just ridiculous, this kind of stuff pisses me off about teenagers tbh. they don't double check sources and go with what is cool at the time. so dumb.

here's the document to show where their funds are going......

and here's a picture of the dudes in charge of this with the sudan people's liberation army (don't let the name fool you, regimes that have killed their own people like 'people's republic of china', 'union of soviet socialist republics', 'democratic peoples republic of korea' -meaning don't let the name 'people's' or 'union' fool you), a bunch of hipster advocates trying to start up violence and give more power to the ugandan army who is just as bad in a way (a dictatorship also accused of rape and murder).http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-PnDZmngAhM/Sa_KBGNySiI/AAAAAAAAAJY/uBOfiAysghs/s1600-h/IMG_2941.JPG
    tl;dr do more research forreal.

Okay nevermind. I found this on the facebook page for the IC group at my school written by a guy. Possibly a student? Or a graduate student even? Anyway it's sort of long.

This again? It's called the Nirvana Fallacy, or Perfect Solution Fallacy. By this logic, just because seat belts don't save everyone, we should get rid of them altogether. Just because punishing one criminal doesn't get rid of crime in general, we should just stop punishing criminals. Killing bin Laden didn't end terrorism? Well, damn, we should've just let bygones be bygones and let him be on his merry way.

Anyway, I think the whole Kony and LRA thing is horrible and I've never heard of it. This is the first time I have (This "time" being this entire fiasco, not just this thread). And alright, so most people are fauxtivists are whatever the hell, but this has some good in it. For every 100 people who are just following a fad, maybe 1 person would actually do something and join a legitimate cause. IC may have all of this criticism, but look at how many people know about Kony before...and how many know about him now. Maybe this will cause people to raise pressure on politicians to raise pressure on the groups chasing Kony and he gets caught, with a best looking scenario being that people's eyes are opened about this kind of thing and they start caring. Maybe, worst-case scenario, nothing happens, but now people are a bit more informed.

But hey, he was well-known before and getting rid of him won't end child soldiers being used and murder and stuff, so let's just forget it.

.....wow no okay i think you need to take a step back and look at what i said. i said he was a bad man I'm not a moron aight. obviously we need to get rid of these bad people I'm not saying we shouldn't I'm saying just because you support the cause doesn't mean you have to support the organization. theres plenty of better business bureau backed charities that are giving more than 31% of their profits to the actual cause.........yeah cool?????

My only complaint with them is the way that they use children and appeal to emotion for propaganda. Consider the man's son, for instance. I was annoyed that they included that because it had no relevance to the actual point and it looked staged anyway. Their tactics are underhanded, which makes me suspicious of them as well. But they are spreading the word, and that is worth something.

    Again, it was to promote.
I'm guessing the son was just there for appeal and used as an example of finding out who Kony is.

The use of his son was twofold: to promote an emotional response as you say, but also to contrast with how the children abducted and those who escaped, such as Jacob, were forced to exist, compared with how we live; thereby enforcing the "Where you live shouldn't influence whether you live" message.

I think it was more the impression that it was staged that bothered me. The kid was not acting naturally. His show of emotion was extremely minimal at best. It made me narrow my eyes at the producers.

I'm not sure how I feel about there being such a focus on the filmmaker's son, but I didn't feel any of his reactions were staged. Not all kids are going to start crying or gasp or whatever outward emotional reaction one might expect when learning what this kid did. He looked very troubled by what he was learning, and you could almost see the gears in his mind turning and questioning. Everyone deals with their emotions differently, and that's true with kids, too.

It set me on edge and felt off. Whether his reactions were staged or not, I feel that it was neither necessary nor effective; bland and a grating insert of the guy's child. The stuff about Jacob was far better. To each their own.

    Wtf?!! Here too?!!
*after I clicked on the link*
Ohh, I see. I was seeing "KONY 2012" everywhere the past few days. I did get annoyed by it then when I clicked on the link it made sense.
    I agree with this ^
The kid's emotions didn't looked staged to me ether. Even if his emotions were staged you would notice it.
