A bit of an odd suggestion, but one worth making.

As many of you may know, many sites are "blacking out" themselves in protest of SOPA and PIPA on January 18th. I did a little bit of research and found that we could do the same thing right here using this code:

    HTML:
    <script type="text/javascript">var a=new Date,b=a.getHours()+a.getTimezoneOffset()/60;if(18==a.getDate()&&0==a.getMonth()&&2012==a.getFullYear()&&13<=b&&24>=b)window.location="http://sopastrike.com/strike";</script>
Essentially, this is to be placed in the header of our theme (skin?), and will activate automatically on January 18th to redirect anyone who visits to this site: http://sopastrike.com/strike

    Who's up for it?

There's a traitor in our midst!

If it's already been delayed it's not really a worry right now. If they say they're going to go ahead with it or put it up for voting again soon, then do it.

Just my opinion. Might be slightly biased by the fact that i spend alot of time of my day on here and would hate to not be able to access it. Also, i'm not so sure the government would take much notice if KHV went down for a day.

Pretty much what Smurfasaurus said. I go on here a lot, and I would hate to not be able to access it. Apparently a lot of major websites are already having a blackout, I don't want this one to have a blackout either.

KHV isn't a large enough community for it to have any effect. The big ones are doing it, anyway. Regardless of it just being on principle, it wouldn't matter.

Also, only SOPA has been shelved, PIPA is still up.

I don't really support that idea.
As previous posts stated, our site isn't well known outside the KH Fanbase community to be noticed.
Plus, I'm free on the 18th, so I need all the internets that aren't shutdown that day.

While I think it'd be valiant effort, I don't think the KH-Vids community will back you up on turning the site off for 24 hours(not like we haven't had that happen, good ol database errors. :'D).
Turning off Wikipedia for a day will grab the nations attention somewhat, turning off KH-Vids for a day would just annoy.

One day without khv isn't the end of the world, and if it is then that is very unhealthy. I say why not. If everyone decided not to protest because of little things then nobody would ever make a difference. Large community or not it still shows something.

    1. That's not our call to make. And good luck getting Ron's approval for it.

    2. There's no point. Like Noroz said, our community is pretty small and wouldn't impact anything. While I'm sure most of us at KHV don't support SOPA, I think it's best to leave the protesting to the "web giants".

    Ron? Am I missing something?

And yeah, we'd need to have at least a thousand hits a day to have any impact at all. Probably ten or a hundred times that.

This is closer to my feelings. Giants being involved helps a ton but the spirit of these protests is all of the little guys working together to do something very noticeable. And 24 hours of no KHV isn't going to harm anything. But clearly we are in the minority on that one. And like RvR said that would be Tienewman's call, and while he is more active than spdude (or at least had been for a while) trying to reach him on this short of notice would be a grand trick indeed.

Ron is the site owner. Or if you want to call him by his forum name, Tienewman.

I don't really care, but will little KHV really show anything if it goes down for a day?

I can understand people thinking blacking out khv wouldn't make a difference but to the people just saying that because they don't want it blacked out I say have fun if SOPA gets passed. I don't think some of you really get the point of a protest. Not trying to be rude or anything but even a little effort can do something.

I'm guessing this is a no, since Tienewman is the owner. It is not our place to decide something like this. Any further discusssion seems futile. Feel free to send me a private message with objections.
