Now I happned to be browsing youtube when I came across this comment.

I don't know about Japan but in Amercia and everywhere else it seems to be doing very well at least to my knowledge.

What do you think? Do you think KH is slowly dieing due to prolonging KH3, baiting with mysteries that might never be sloved, all the spin-off games or do you think it's just fine?

I do think the series has taken a bit of a hit due to the constant filler, but I think that part of the feeling might just be due to the big fans getting impatient. Filler isn't bad, necessarily, and we've gotten some at least halfway decent games since Kingdom Hearts II. Birth by Sleep, mostly, though that's a matter of opinion. I don't think they're refusing to make a sequel, they're just trying to build up to one, and make a nice chunk of change in the process. We have to bear in mind that, at the end of the day, that's what Square is there for: to make money.

In terms of sales, I don't think Square is doing exceptionally anywhere. Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't sales been down for all their games? I think quite a bit of it can be chalked up to the poor economic climate right now, people are cutting out unnecessary expenses. If Square stuck to one console I'd venture to say that they might see more solid/consistent sales, but I could be wrong.

Edit: Also, moved to the Upcoming Kingdom Hearts section.

This is a problem i've been battling with myself. I love how Nomura puts so much detail into the series, diving deeper into characters and into the simple story of a boy with a key who must save worlds. On the other hand though, I wonder where and when the line will be drawn? I know Nomura could keep adding new holes, but I think some things can be left to the minds of the fans, like Leon's childhood and whatnot.

I'm trying to stay in with it, but with the system hopping, my wallet gets drained rather quickly. With me being in college and have to get a car and what not soon, I have to spend wisely. I have heard talk that this is all the 'Xehanort' saga, and there will be more after this. If that is the case, then i'm afraid I will have to drop out myself. That to me, that is just too long of a franchise.

I really doubt that it will ever go this far, simply because Leon is a Final Fantasy character. :x But I do see your point. Although shedding some light on the destruction of Radiant Garden and how all the worlds fell could be interesting...
I believe this is true--I think Nomura has said that KHIII will be the close of the Xehanort Saga, and that there will be a whole new plot afterwards. Whether it will follow Sora or have entirely new characters I don't think was ever confirmed, I'm assuming that it would at the very least follow the Keyblade.

I try to think of the Kingdom Hearts games as a world--this right now simply follows Sora's story in that world. Games in the futures could have entirely new characters unrelated to Sora.

In a way it's good that people lose interest in it. It shows that whoever sticks with it has truly fallen in love with the series and is dedicated to it till the end. That's how I view myself, I may not like how they system hop and all that. But I got a PSP for BBS, and then I found out there are other great games on the PSP, so essentially I am indebted to KH by buying different systems.

BBS was able to sell over 800,000 copies in a little over a month in Japan after its release and Days was one of the best-selling games of 2009 for the DS. No matter how much fans whine that we need KH3 faster, they can't deny that the story is at least becoming somewhat more coherent with each and every new game. If Square decided to only publish the main series, then the story wouldn't make any sense and the series probably wouldn't have sold as well because of that. Imagine how confused people were when they started KH2 without playing CoM and found out that it wasn't just a spin-off to cash on the franchise's success and that it was relevant to the story. And I believe the same would happen if they released KH3 without releasing BBS, Days, and KH3D. So I personally believe that at the moment, things are just fine. I will admit that all this console hopping makes it difficult to play all the games and get into the series but I'm not one to buy something on the release date anyway and I don't mind waiting for prices to drop so I can buy them.

What people don't understand is that development for KH3 can't start until Versus is complete. They're the team that will make KH3. ...Though seeing as how they're listed to be working on other projects now I have my doubts that Versus is all they'll be working on now. Still, Kingdom Hearts has already secured a strong fanbase. It may not be massive but the KH games have sold well consistently. I don't see the series dying anytime soon.

I'm very much the same way. I got a DS because of Days, a PSP for BBS, and I got a 3DS for Christmas solely because of the upcoming KH3D. I have genuinely enjoyed playing every KH yet and I highly doubt I'll be disappointed by KH3D or KH3. My sole concern for the series is...What comes after that? Noruma has stated that will be the end of the Xehanort saga, and that he plans to retire the current cast so where will they go from there. Squeenix isn't one to drop a popular series so what will they do after 3?

He never said that. He said that he plans to continue the series with Sora as the main character. You did get it right though that KH3 will be the end of the Xehanort saga. He said however, that Sora was always intended to be the main character and that Sora will stick with us through the whole series. As for what'll happen storywise after KH3, nobody knows but it's pretty much confirmed that KH3 isn't the end.

That' s weird, it seems to be the exact opposite to me : the story could have easily been kept rather simple, but instead it was needlessly over-complicated for the sole purpose of stretching it over as many spin-off as they can muster. Over-complicating a story so simple at its core that it could fit on a confetti is, like, a SE signature in my book. Just look at FF XIII for instance : at the end of the day, once you throw the L' Cie/Cie' th/Fal' Cie/Compendium garbage, all that' s left is the simple story of a cop who' s on the run because her sister was caught in the middle of an ethnic purge. She ends up with other parias, they learn they were manipulated into actually becoming a threat, kill the real bad guy and thwart his destructive scheme thanks to the power of love, friendship, flowers and sacrifice. Cue bright rising sun and happy yet bitter ending.

Each KH side-game brings more questions than answers, and sometimes also retcons a few things. I think Nomura knows more or less where he' s going, he just doesn' t know how. He can' t predict how many games SE will ask him to do and what Disney will or won' t approve, so he just goes with the flow and improvises a lot when the time comes. The problem with that writing method is that the more questions you create the trickier it gets to land on your feet and answer them all in the finale while remaining coherent. My intuition tells me at this point Nomura can' t/won' t. Which is fine by me, it doesn' t mean the overall story will necessarily suck (I like KH mainly for its gameplay anyway) but ... remember how Lost ended and how many fans it pissed off ?

Im a person that can wait, I can wait 10 years for a KH3. It would take Square at least 5-6 years to get KH3 released in Japan(do you really think they can start and finish a game over night?). In all honestly, it depends on the person. To me its not dead till its over.

    This is how I feel.

I know at first I wasn't too hot about the series but after KH2 I was sucked into it and now I genially love it to death.

I bought a 3DS just for 3D, I can wait till time stops for the next KH game. I'll buy a new system for KH and anything.

The side-games never bothered me as it fleshes out the universe.

I will always love KH and will never lose interest.

I really don't see how the series is dying. BBS sold pretty well, which is great considering PSP games are usually cursed with low sales compared to DS games. And I can see KH3D selling a lot since it's being released during the 3DS's early years, meaning more and more copies being sold as the years go by.

Nomura himself said that the KH storyline will continue even after KH3. I don't think we need to worry about it "dying", although the time between might be so long that it, in a way, "fades" but I don't think it will ever go away, just like Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, and etc.

If Kingdom Hearts was dying, it would take a very long time for that to happen - just in case you guys didn't check, the series has a global fanbase, millions, billions of people love Kingdom Hearts, and despite some of the populace becoming impatient, others love it for what it is and will stay dedicated through to the end, I think.

I know I will, and I can't be the only one. Sure, there is a lot of consol hopping, from the PS2 to the GameBoy Advanced, back to the PS2, then to the DS, then to the PSP, and then to the 3DS, and hopefully to the PS3 next, but the series, the story, the characters, the game components, these are all great things of the series and I feel it's one that won't die soon.

It's not like they can just MAKE IT.
They still have to get Versus out of the way.

I'm in southeast U.S, and here, even there are KH fans, it's more console KH than handheld, because, unlike the handhelds, the console games are always fun to re-play, whereas the hand-held, when you're done, well...you're done. Could you imagine if BBS sold on the PS3? Yeah. Epic. But fans around want KHIII, heck, fans EVERYWHERE want KHIII, and they are having to turn to other games(In my case, Uncharted series, in others, Zelda, Mario, Call of Duty, and others.) to wait on KHIII, which Nomura is taking his SWEET TIME with. A multipack collection of Days, BBS and coded for PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 would have been better than each separate game. That, and people want the Org back, and they want the main three(Sora, Riku and Kairi) to get some character development and be a fighting trio, not duo. Just listen to the fans, Nomura! WE WANT KHIII!!!!!

While I have no problem with certain games on handhelds, I can't exactly say some Kingdom Hearts fans would be happy with it. I know that if a BBSv2 comes out on say the PS Vita, I probably won't be getting because I don't really see anything that interests me about the PS Vita at the moment. I bought my 3DS not because of just Kingdom Hearts but because of other games as well. Not to mention that you have three Kingdom Hearts games that can be played on the 3DS.

My point is of course the sales aren't as good as the console sales but that's because some people just aren't interested in handhelds or just have no money to buy all the consoles which the games are released on. Even then, I can't see the series dying. I believe the hype will be phenomenal for KH3 depending on how well Versus is done and lots of people will buy it because of that. Not to mention Nomura has stated that this isn't the end of the Kingdom Hearts series so he can constantly introduce new people to the series especially if they were to make a HD Compilation.
