Well this is supposed to symbolize Riku being halfway between light and darkness. and soul eater technically wasn't a keyblade.

no its a keyblade...although its not a technical keyblade dew to a fer errors in design but it is considered a keyblade for many reasons mainly:it was incomplete till turned into way to dawn but it is a dark realm keyblade none the less

 

I don't think it's actually a keyblade, just a sword with the potential to be a keyblade.

its a unfinished keyblade that's why it turned into way to dawn when riku finally stopped thinking he was only darkness
