I haven't seen a post for this, and it's kind of old. But I'm curious about what people think about this.

Katyie Perry sings "Hot and Cold" with Elmo on the show and a lot of parents throw a fit about what Katie Perry wore during the taping. Myself, I thought 1-5 year olds, the target audience for the show, would have no idea what they're looking at and it's not a big deal.

For countries who don't know, there's a few who don't get the show. It's a kids show from 1-5 teaching kids counting, alphabet, manners and other such things. It's been around 41 years, and has been a massive part of my life while at that tender age.

Eventually they removed the song, but it's on Youtube for anyone who's curious:

    Thoughts?

Nevermind what she was wearing, I dislike the fact that Katy freaking Perry was on Sesame Street to begin with. Her music is not for children, and she's not exactly a good role model for the Sesame Street age group. What she was wearing wasn't very age appropirate either.

I agree with you, Killjoy (awesome new username, btw), I find it to be a bad call to even have Katy Perry as a guess on the show. I know that SS tries to at least make the show bearable for parents to tolerate while watching with their kids, but the show is FOR kids. Why would you ask someone who clearly is not a proper role model for children in general to be on a children's show? I try to stay away from music/shows/etc. that people like Katy Perry star in or promote. If I were a parent, I wouldn't want my kids watching something she's in, even if it was harmless and kid friendly (because the fact of the matter, she's going to go back to doing her adult-themed work at the end of the day). The outfit she wore may not be the most inappropriate thing in the world (that still doesn't make it ok), but you gotta wonder if anyone thought it through that this would not be appropriate for a children's program.

And kids may not even think about it, but things like this still affect them in the long run. Take any kind of psychology/sociology course and you'll understand that.

I could just imagine the count going like "One slut, ah, ah, ah!"

Joking aside, whose bright idea was it to Perry on this kid's show anyway. I do get some stars (such as Carrie Underwood) making an appearance, but that's because they promote something that's good. They're not like Perry, who proves that you don't need to be talented int order to make money in this world; I mean look at Kesha. I will seriously laugh if they decide to put her on next.

But yeah, what she wore was a little inappropriate. Kids may not care what someone is wearing, but that doesn't mean it won't be instilled in their mind. They're watching SS, meaning that they're absorbing everything they see on there. Most people who are sayin they should've showed the clip is middle-aged Perry fans who wanted a chance to see clevage.

If you ask me, Elmo is the real reason that they didn't show this video. Why does he run around the bottom of her dress laughing? Such a little perv.

On a more serious note, why would this be banned from airing? To be honest, I didn't really see what the big deal is. Seeing a bit of cleavage is harmless in my opinion(she's also wearing a mesh over it so you can't see her actual cleavage >_>) and it's not like most children in that age group would actually focus on her breasts more than the actual song and animation. Besides a child is eventually going to start seeing these sort of things in public and as they grow up anyways.

Whether or not Katy Perry is an appropriate role model for children is another thing. At least she made the song appropriate for Sesame Street.

I love how you manage to bring Ke$ha into everything xD

Anyway, I can understand why they wouldn't put this on TV since this sort of stereotype will stick in the childrens minds and when they're older will see the need to dress like her but they're most likely going to see that in other places. Couldn't they just put her in a more appropriate costume and refilm it? I don't see the problem with putting Katy Perry on it anyway.

This wasn't an overreaction but it could have been fixed, parents are very sensitive and worry about every thing. Thats not a problem, I'm just stating the fact.

What I would like to know is why no one confronted her about what she was wearing before the taping and offer her something to change into that was more appropriate before continuing the segment. Common sense, right? I just don't see why no one thought of that (oh, right. Common sense is more of a superpower these days)

Besides, kids are exposed to boobs not long after they're born.

See, the thing about Sesame Street is that everything that goes on in that show is supposed to be "Okay" for children, and moral to a certain degree. So when children see that, they'll start wanting to wear ѕlutty ass clothes like that because they think it's "Okay". Which in my opinion, is not okay.
That's something that isn't okay with me either. I can easily see kids hearing the song on the radio then asking their mom to stop because they love the song they heard on Sesame Street, and then hear "You change your mind like a girl changes clothes, yeah you PMS like a bitсh I would know. How many kids would ask for Katy Perry albums for their birthdays? How many misinformed grandmas would actually buy them? This is not cool.

Just a note, Sesame Street I'm pretty sure picked the outfit. I think I heard it in an interview a few days after they pulled it. They mentioned they got an evening gown they thought was appropriate for her to do the bit in.

It is interesting to listen to all these comments. I thought since no one posted it, no one was interested. Apparently no one heard it instead. :) Anyway, yeah, I never heard Katy Perry, and reading her lyrics now, I have to agree on it being inappropriate.
