Yeah, besides if kairi didn't mean water(ocean or whatever) there wouldn't be bbs.At least the connections between the characters,to be precise.^^

Nomura himself said Kairi's name meant 'sea' or an affiliation with 'water'. Riku's name means 'earth' but more 'shore line' or something by the sea etc. Their names mean a bit more than told but in the end it equates in simplicity to Kairi = water/sea, Riku = earth/shore, Sora = Wind/Air. Their suffixes do mean a couple other things too but Nomura seemed to intend these ones as he has said so in interviews. Also, 'ri' is just added on to make it more feminine. The 'Kai' part was what was used mainly for her name.

If they had wanted to call her 'water', they would've probably named her Mizu...

I'm guessing Kairi is a name Nomura made up? Or is it derived from an existing name?

I'm just happy cuz Kairi is my favorite character and my name means sea in Welsh. ^_^

Actually, it's spelled kaerimasu. It does mean "to return," but that's the conjugated form. The root word is "kaeru," which doesn't sound anything like "Kairi," now does it?

Um, it's kaerimasu. Not kairimasu. And in my opinion, the general term "to return" is better represented by the verb, 'modorimasu'

Kaerimasu is more commonly used when a person is returning home, or back to a place of situational/personal significance.

Actually, the "separation" kairi is more like the feeling of separation.
So it does tie in with the whole storyline of KH.
