As per tradition, I always choose the fire pokemon on my first playthrough of a pokemon game.
So far I've just beat the first gym. After this short bit of gameplay I must ask. Did they put the games on easy mode?
No poison outside battle, tms can be used more than once, heck I was even given a free grass pokemon just because I chose a fire starter. Besides those however I am finding the game more engaging then Platinum so far.
As I only have one pokemon, not counting the rat pokemon I caught to be an hm slave, what pokemon should I be looking out for? I went in blind in Platinum and came out with a "decent" team

    Okay, you chose Fire, so:

Water: Tympole ----> Palpitoad (good for fourth Gym) ----> Seismitoad

Grass: I'd say get a Sewaddle and evolve it twice, because your Pansage has bad stats (the Pokémon as a whole does), but up to you

Flyer: Vullaby. Evolve her into Mandibuzz and she doubles as a Dark-type. Before hand, I recommend Pidove ----> Tranquill ----> Unfezant

Electric: Joltik ----> Galvantula. It's fast, and it can learn a lot of great moves. Works great for the sixth Gym.

Dragon: Axew ----> Fraxure ----> Haxorus. Amazing Dragon-type, can be substituted with the Legendary later, but I recommend keeping it in there anyway.

Can't get any Pokémon from Kanto, Johto, Hownn, or Sinnoh until Post-Game, so good luck :3

Oh wow, that means no alakazam. Dx
Oh well, I can go one game without one, lets see how confused I'll get before I reach the second gym. XD

Also, after doing some research, aren't 2 of those suggestions bug pokemon?
I kind of like Joltik, but Sewaddle doesn't sit well with me with its quad weakness to fire. X_X

Then maybe an Excadrill instead of a Grass-type. I did that my first run of Black and White 2, and it worked out pretty well.

Never used one, but I have used Gothita, Gothorita, and Gothitelle. They're pretty good as Psychic-types.

Although based on how one of the Elite Four uses Munna's Evolution, it seems to pay off later.

It's addicting. It engaged me a lot more than White 1 did. I replayed White 1 after beating White 2, and I could not be asked to level grind my Pokémon because of the lack of plot points I between the 8th Gym and the Pokémon league.

To answer your question, yes, BW is easymode

About halfway through the game you are handed a Lucky Egg free of charge

Like holy hell Gamefreak convenience is one thing but this is ridiculous

Also you're not there yet but the Desert Resort just north of Castelia City is a great place to build your team. You can get Sandile, Scraggy, Dwebble, Darumaka... and in the Relic Castle you can get Yamask, which will later become the Pokémon that single-handedly cripples Marshal.

You can catch Riolu in the wild

    YOU CAN CATCH

    RIOLU

    IN THE WILD

BW2 is actually giving you a free shot to the chops that's how confident it is that it can kill you

TM's have been unlimited use for at least 2 generations now. As for easy mode? Seemed about the same to me. Though the dynamic EXP system makes level grinding harder as the higher level you are the less EXP you receive.

I recommend getting Blitzle when you get the chance, it's not bad to get early on. It's a pretty fast lightning type and it can learn the fire move Flame Charge. Also it's lightning rod ability means electrical attacks don't affect it and it will power up it's attacks.

So many new pokemon, finding a good balanced team is going to hurt my head. X_X

By last 2 generations I hope you meant last 2 games as in black and white 1 and 2. In Platinum, once I used a TM it was gone. Also since I just started the game I know jack about it. Under my first impression of it it just seemed a tad more simple then previous games although compared to Platinum this one seems to have a more interesting plot so far.

I've seen a couple dozen Blizle along the next route, I might just pick one up until I find a Joltik.
Not really a fan of its poor defensive stats. X_X

Oh sorry I got HM and TM mixed up.

Yeah Blitzle's poor defense can be an issue early on, but once levelled a bit it's higher speed can really help out, also the lightning rod ability is great when you get to the electric based gym. But from what I hear Jolkik is great.

The good thing about the next games is that they had a challenging mode, so they actually gave the gym leaders another pokemon (hope they do that more. Having all the gym leaders with only 3 pokemon is boring), the levels are much higher at the end, and I've actually found it fairly difficult compared to recent games.

But for a team, I usually went with Emboar, Unfezent, Krookodile, Zebstrika(or any other better electric), Carracosta, and Haxorus/Hydreigon. It usually gets all of your types set up, and makes the game go without any sort of difficulty. But if you want difficulty, choose incredibly lame pokemon

For my team in White, I currently have Galvantula, Gothitelle, Braviary, Seismitoad, Chandelure, and Serperior. It's a fairly nice set-up, as I didn't lose against the final bosses (unlike my first Playthrough. That was hell).

All you really need for the E4 is a Ghost- and a Dark-type. That'll basically take care of three of them. If you don't want to bruteforce Grimsley, you can bring a Fighting- or Bug-type as well. Shauntal's Golurk has Brick Break; Grimsley's Liepard has Aerial Ace; and Caitlin's Reuniclus has Focus Blast. Other than that, none of them can cover their weaknesses...

...with the exception of Marshal, who will actually just pummel any Psychic- or Flying-type you bring against him. I recommend getting a Yamask because it becomes Cofagrigus, who's basically a 2nd-string Dusknoir; it has the bulk to take those heavy hits, and it nulls Marshal's STABs to boot. Only his Throh can hurt you, and then only with Payback. All you have to do is spread around some Will O' Wisp and he's done for. From there you can Hex him to death, and even lay on some Curse if you're feeling brave.

Cofagrigus also proves useful against afterward. A few of his Pokés rely on tricky abilities that the mummy man can nullify.

There are 100% more Es in Hoenn and 100% fewer Ws.
