Okay awhile ago I sure this thing on TV about how strict China is, by not letting people have more then one child so if they have twins they have to give up one.

So do you think what they are doing is right, and should everywhere else follow this rule of having one child per couple, or do you think China should lighten up a little?

    China is pretty big actually.

The population is enormous, and if it grows any bigger, there litterally wont be any room, or resources for those extra or even all the people. But then again, taking a twin away must be awfull.

Most immigrants are from areas with an outstanding population density.

I think its wrong to choose how someone should live their lifestyle, but then again, they might not have a choice.

    Isn't China over populated?
Anyway, I don't think it's right that someone would have to give up a child because of some law. But like Nailpolish said, they probably don't have a choice in the matter.

Actually it is like the 5th biggest country in the world...

I don't know; I think when people have twins they should be allowed to keep them...
The world is severely overpopulated, but it is just such a weird thing to tell people they are limited to having one kid. There really is no good solution here IMO.

Oh wow, I think China should totally lighten up.

I mean, if you knew a mother's love, the first time you hold your baby, you want to keep it.

And I know from experience, you get very lonely. I nearly killed myself when I was seven years old because I was so lonely-- for serious.

No it's not, but life's not fair. Hopefully China will be reformed, but until then they will have to wait.

I'm chinese, I don't think it's fair but they don't want to be over populated, with children. Some places like farms and out of town places... they don't give a ****. So they have more than one kid there. I have people from China coming up to me saying how lucky I am for having a sibling, because I'm from Hong Kong and Hong Kong is a special nation or something. If this does go to other countries on having one kid per family then it will cause a mayhem.

    This is a tough question.
China is very.. what is the word... full. There are so many people there. They kind of have to or else the land will be overcrowded.
    But then again...
People should have to right to have as many children as they want without giving one up.

They can carry on and keep on growing, but their population is already 1/6 of the world population which is 1 billion. And if you ask me that's huge. Something is needed to be done in that area, but their current methods are wrong.

The country is getting better, but communist methods are still around, their brutality and ways of governing having 100% changed yet. In time it will, but for now it's not. Simple as.

It's a communist country, what do you really expect? From the outside looking in, it may seem disturbing, but the fact that they all get 1 child might be very fair in their eyes. That way no one gets more kids then no one else. It may sound like a stupid point, but in all fairness, China's government gets to do whatever it really wants, and the country WORKS, it works VERY WELL, despite it's many unpleasentries.

Cin makes a good point. We can't be the judges of what's fair in a country that is vastly different us on a cultural level. Asking if having one child per family in China is fair is like talking about Islam and then asking if polygamy is moral. Western values aren't the law of the world.

    Lol, stupid.

Well, I mean I understand their point as to why they would do that, but it's still stupid and it causes so many problems for families and kids. It's sad. Personally, I think they should stop. And by give up does that mean give up the child to someone else? Or kill them? As a catholic, I don't feel killing is an excuse to anything.

They don't actually force the family to give up the child. It's just looked down upon to have more than one.
If that were true, I probably wouldn't be here right now. :3

They don't kill children; even Communists know that that's seriously against the main religion (Buddhism). If people know that the government is killing children, then there's going to be an uprising, and the rest of the world would know about it, just like the Tianimen Square Massacre. You can't hide mass killings.

Oh well then, I still think it's bad although I guess they have a point.

And yes we do know. But most of the time most of the world doesn't do anything.

Well, think about from their perspective. China is highly populated at the moment. Being such a small country(State.whatever.), they have no choice but to do it. I'm pretty sure the chinese men and women probably don't like the idea, but what can they do? It's either keep the population under control or be over populated. Each man, woman, and child needs food, water, clothes, and etc. That's one of these for every person; everyday.

    China just doesn't have a choice. :/

And what are you basing this on that it causes problems for families and kids? How is it detrimental? Is there some heavy psychological need for Humans to have multiple children? So you are saying that couples who only have one child are probably experiencing psychological detriments?

Tell that to your several religious crusades?

I didn't know if they got taken away or not. If they did, then it would cause problems for families because mothers and father's obviously don't want their children taken away. And even so, a lot of parents want to have multiple children.
o.o I know... thanks by the way.

Sometimes people can't help having multiple children. Twins, for example. The Chinese government isn't going to take away a child. Not even Communists go that low, at least, not in modern times.
China has enough problems with pollution and the conflict with Tibet; it doesn't need an overly abused population.

If I'm not mistaken, the recent economic boom that China is experiencing has greatly increased the quality of life. With the resources to go around I recall them being much more lenient with regards to family size now than they were in the past.
