    *scratches head*

So, I've been thinking (and reading) about Birth by Sleep, mostly because of this story I'm working on (haha no, I'm not showing you. Nyeh) that depends deeply on all these Birth by Sleep secrets and fact jumbos whatever. My constantly wandering mind basically smacked me across the face one day, saying:

"*WHACKS!* Terra is a MASTER~~~ *butterflies*"

...but lots of people say otherwise.

...Actually, they don't say anything at all. But that's similar to saying otherwise because if he was, I would have seen it somewhere.

If you ask why, it's because technically, it seems Xehanort made him a Master. He's a Master himself, he witnessed his Mark of Mastery, and he kept calling Terra "Master Terra" and all that. I'm pretty sure he was just doing some butt-kissing that time, but still.

Besides, isn't it only Masters that can pass on the power of the Keyblade?

In short, what do YOU guys think, cause I'm lost in all these twisty KH facts and all?

I'm sorry, but I don't know where else to ask and wonder.

I think... that Master is really just a title.

All that 'mastery' seems to imply is that you're privy to information on sealing and warping worlds, which is the only thing Aqua learned that Terra didn't. Other than that, both Aqua and Terra were able to bequeath their Keyblades to other people, Aqua completely on accident.

BBS confused a lot of things for me while playing the game, but the upcoming game for the 3DS will have a connection towards the Mark of Mastery Exam and hopefully that clear up a few things. But I agree, I think it's technically just a title.

    IMO, Terra IS a Master.
    Remember, his exam was rigged.
Xehanort told Eraqus, who hates darkness more than everything, that Terra had darkness in his letter, saying to reconsider turning him into master because of it.
AND he also drew Terra's darkness out so Eraqus would change minds in case he hadn't yet..

If MX hadn't gone to that test or sent Eraqus that letter, he'd be a Master.

And even then, the scene after Braig's battle should also count, you know, the one MX makes him Master just so he stops being afraid of using his darkness.

    ^ This.

Also, Terra singlehandedly defeats two keyblade masters with a great deal of experience as well as holding off a keyblade master and his apprentice(Xehanort and Vanitas) by himself. While not officially having been given the rank of master, he's got skill greater than that of them.

The thing is, this doesn't answer the question directly. Terra should be a master but he technically isn't because when Master Xehanort called him "Master Terra" he never really passed along any special knowledge or anything. <<

I believe that Xehanort called him a master simply to lure him into a false sense of trust and to help him lose trust in Eraqus (did I spell that right?).

I think he can be classed as a Master but it's not official, as others have said, Xehanort just wanted to bring Terra closer, he would have said almost anything. The only reason he 'failed' his exam is because of MX so he has the skill and the potential of being one he just can't be called one officially. It's like the title of Lord here, someone can be worthy of the title but not have it, that doesn't mean you are a Lord.

If you mean 'Master' as the official title then no, he's not but if you mean does he have the skill level of a master then yes, he does.

Wait...so basically, you guys are indirectly telling me that just ANY Keyblade wielder can pass on the power of the Keyblade because "Master" is just a title and Terra succeeded in doing so with Riku, even if he technically wasn't, right?

There are a few schools of thought here.

The first states that one needs to have the title 'master' to be able to pass on a Keyblade. This one believes that Terra became a master thanks to Xehanort, and was able to pass on the Keyblade because of it.

The second states that one only needs to be at the skill level of 'master' to be able to pass on a Keyblade. So Terra, because of having a rigged exam, didn't pass, but was still at the level of mastery. This means Terra was able to pass on the Keyblade, because he was at that level of skill, whether it was acknowledged or not.

I do think you just need to be at the skill level of master since the title 'Master' is just a word, it won't have any affect on the persons abilities. I think passing on the kyblade is just something you learn not something you get with the title.

But if it's a conscious decision, then how did Kairi get her Keyblade? Aqua didn't intentionally do it.

Maybe passing the Keyblade is something anyone with the Mark of Mastery (Which Terra and Aqua, heck, likely even Ven have) can do, and the Keyblade itself just knows that if a not-master touchs it while someone with the Mark is wielding it, it should pass the power to wield to the not-master.

And IMO, the test is just to prove if you have the Mark or not, and the title is just proof you have it.

That's what I'm getting at. It can't be a skill that's learnt. It's something that occurs when the Mark of Mastery is obtained.

Really, we need a lot more information on the Mark of Mastery, especially as it's the focus of KH3D. When I first played BBS, it seemed so mundane and easy test that I didn't even consider the possibility of it actually being anything more than an excuse for a tutorial level. If it's a skill level thing, then why do Sora and Riku need to take it? Surely they've already reached such a level of skill, and proven themselves by beating Xemnas? It feels like trying to make Einstein take a basic maths exam.

There has to be something important about passing the test in itself, otherwise 3D will be a complete waste of a game. :/

In KH everyone has a keyblade sleeping inside of them. When Aqua met Kairi she gained a new keyblade from that new bond : Kairi' s inner keyblade. However it seems that a person needs some "unlocking" to use his inner keyblade. When Terra acknowledges Riku he says this :
In your hand take this key. So long as you have the makings then through this simple act of taking its wielder you shall one day be.
So long as you have the makings ? Does it mean you could in fact unlock your inner Keyblade just by yourself ? Since everything in KH seems related to bonds I think all you really need to unlock your inner Keyblade is a special bond or a special mindset. There' s plenty of hints about Aqua being more sensible to bonds than any other character in KH. Terra' s sentence implies that "having the makings" is much more important than anything else. There' s a good chance for this whole "ritual" to be just a lore thing, a way to create a special bond with the people you acknowledge to be worthy, touching the Keyblade being a symbolic act rather than an actual necessity.

Anyway, if you do need to touch a Keyblade then whether it was a conscious act or not either Sora or Riku unlocked Kairi (probably Riku : he was with Kairi just before she awoke her own Keyblade).

That, or it could mean that Sora and Riku have much to learn other than what they already know. This could be a stupid comparison, but if you look at Ven and Sora, Sora kind of sucks. And he has Ven's heart. That sorta means something.

I'm not saying I disagree with you, just stating another possibility. :3"

TAV had an enormous amount of difficulty beating Xehanort when he was an old man. Aqua managed to sorta-beat Terranort when she had Terra fighting from the inside. Sora, on the other hand, beat Xehanort's Heartless, Xehanort's Nobody, and the majority of the Organisation, with assistance from Riku. Also, he can cut through skyscrapers. I find it difficult to see Sora as inferior to TAV.

I will admit, you got me there.

    But...

He has a lot to learn. Think about it, the only means of transportation he has is a Gummi Ship. A ship made out of blocks that look like legos. TAV have Keyblade Gliders/Riders/whatever they're called and armor that can technically resist darkness (mentioned somewhere in the reports~). Not to mention they can conjure direct counterparts to Dark Corridors. He probably IS stronger than TAV because of the strength of his heart, he just has a lot to learn.

The darkness-resistant armour didn't seem to help Terra much. >.>

Although you have a point about Keyblade Gliders and the armour. But as their trainer is Yen Sid, is there any assurance that he'll actually teach them about those? After all, Mickey doesn't use anything like that. He uses the Star Shard.

Remind me about the Dark Corridor counterparts please. I can't recall any time they used Corridors, apart from when Terra rescued Ven. (And I think that was probably a Dark Corridor, considering it was Terra who summoned it.)

That's true, the armour sort of fails then.

I think that's what Sufris was referring to, the time Terra rescued Ven from Master Eraqus.

To be honest, Aqua, Terra and Ven had been training most of their lives with the keyblade (well maybe not Ven) so they probably have a lot of experience with the keyblade, I think that is all Sora lacks, he is deffinately as strong as TAV if not stronger but doesn't use his keyblade to draw out it's full potential.
