The PS3 upgrades the PS2 graphics I hear. But I'm not really sure.

This is just an opinion, but I imagine it would just appear sharper. I can't picture the ps3 doing anything but making it sharper.

I've played it on my PS3, and I didn't notice much of a difference.

I dunno. From wat I heard, PS3 makes the PS2 graphics look crappy. I saw a youtube vid comparing FFX-2 played on the PS3 and PS2 and the PS3 graphics looks very blurry. But that mite b a hoax so don trust me...(i've never played an Xbox360 or a PS3 so don ask me)

I've seen PS2 games on the PS3 and they look more vivid and sharp. I don't see any reason why KH2 wouldn't look better too.

My friend noticed that Halo 2 looked better on the Xbox360. I don't know how they do it, but somehow the quality is enhanced. It doesn't make sense to me.

They do actually look a bit better. Graphics are a lot sharper.

You heard wrong. PS3 can play both PS2 and PS1 games.

The fact that PS2 games are upscaled to 1080P:

--> Yes, KH2 (in fact, any PS1/PS2 game) looks better on PS3 than PS2.

PS2 can only output a max of 480P, and we all know 1080P > 480P.

Where on earth did you read this? Backwards compatibility with games is one of the requirements for a Sony console. In fact, no gaming platform would dare to make the mistake of not making it so.

What the PS3 does to PS2 games is upscales the resolution of the game, which basically stretches out the image to fit on larger TVs. It doesn't "make the graphics better", it makes them "bigger" so that they're compatible with newer TVs

So basically, it may look better on the PS3 if you're playing it on a huge TV, but then again playing anything on a huge TV gives the impression of 'omg gud grafix lawl'

If you're playing it on a regular TV, there most likely wouldn't be a difference at all in quality

An average PS2 game's native resolution is 480p, so if you take something that's naturally that resolution and stretch it out to be 1080p, that isn't exactly making the graphics better, it's making them bigger, which may distort quality depending on how you're looking at it

This is a 480 pixel image:

This is the same image, upscaled to 1080 pixels:

I'm not saying this is a flawless scientific example, but it's a basic idea of what's going on

    --------------

Also, the PS3's Backwards Compatibility is Software emulation, meaning that not every PS1/PS2 game will work on it, though roughly 70% will (not sure on the exact figures)

And the 40GB PS3 has no PS2 backwards compatibility, so if you get the 40GB PS3 you will not be able to play PS2 games on it.

So yes, whoever said that were right (in a sense), depending on which Model you get your PS3 will either have no PS2 Backwards Compatibility, or it will have it (but some games may not work)

Maybe you misunderstood that line of mine. I wasn't insinuating that PS2 graphics magically become better when upscaled on the PS3, but redistributing the pixels to 1080P *does* provide more vivid colouring and in some places sharpens and enhances of a lot of the visuals.

Most HDTVs, including mine have several settings by which you can adjust the dimensions of the video being displayed (in my case, I use "Full", which quite frankly was an awesome compromise that managed to display my .hack//G.U. in 16:9 without distorting proportions or blurring the screen--and I remind again that my HDTV is 52" widescreen).

That being said, still, 1080P > 480P. A distortion of image of natively 480P doesn't make this untrue, it's the TV. I also own a 17-inch HDTV, and I can assure you that any PS2 game looks gorgeous on it in comparison.

That's only for the 80GB. The original 60GB PS3s are using a CPU/rasterizer combination chip used in the slim PS2 (EE+GS) that output a ~90-95% BWC. However, this means PS2 titles are still region-locked.

lol, I guess I made an indirect insult to Microsoft. I thought the 360 was BWC.
