I would say it's a type of sport because it is athletic and competitive but not many people really grow up to be dancers, it's not a really long career.
    So yes, and no.
I find that dance is actually a very hard thing to do.It takes a lot of strength and agility to dance.

I think it depends on the dance and the context. General dancing when you are out with your friends on a Friday night is not a sport xD

Dancing in a serious competition for awards is a case when I could see it being classed as a sport.

I'm sorry did you just imply that dancing isn't a career?

There are a lot of professional dancers. People DO grow up to be dancers.

Figure skating is a type of dancing. Ballet is a type of dance, Tap is a type of Dance.

    Not exactly.
I was trying to imply that it isn't a long career.
Usually dancers don't dance for their whole life I mean.
    I know it's a career.

Good xD because I was going to say that is a really stupid thing to think otherwise.

That being said, it isn't uncommon for people to be dancers for life. For example Wayne Sleep, he has been a dancer for a few decades now and still going.

    lol, I met Wayne Sleep.

Hell, I think dancing can definatly be considered a sport. I have been doing ballet all my life and it is a damned better workout than some other "sports" I have done xD

Yeah, sorry I wasn't clear about it.
I have heard of him actually.

    Is ballet hard?
Standing on your tip toes and such?

    I don't think it's a sport. I think it's a competition.
A sport to me consists of at least two separate players or teams competing against each other at the same time with an object. (ball, puck, etc.)
The same thing goes with golf or gymnastics, etc.

It's a career, they are professionals in that field, the same as sports.

That's pointe. Ballet is hard though, its very technical.

Being "en pointe" is a part of ballet, actually.

It can be very hard, depending on the dance you are doing. Once you have the strength in your ankles and feet it gets easier, though.

I really want to do pointe but my dance studio doesn't offer it yet. The might in a few years though.

Well, it gives you exercise, involves competing (sometimes on a team), and can be very dangerous at times when it comes to injuring yourself. Therefore, yes it is.

i think dance is a sport because you have to have athletic ability to be a pro at it. freestyling is ok, but as a pro ballet dancer you can't self-teach yourself. it's like learning a martial art on your own(which is impossible)

I'm a pro, but I'm not a pro ballerina. I do, like, everything else though lol (but not ballroom)

Dancing can also let you express yourself.
I like to breakdance to tell the truth which is ALOT more competitive.
it takes alot more energy and flexibiliy to do all those tricks.

It can be a long career. look at michael jackson's life if im correct he danced in his vids until 40 and he just did another vid a couple months ago

Yes, I've always seen dance as a sport.
It's very popular and it's hard to images all those kinds just enrolled in after school activities.

I'd like to think of dance as a sport. My friends do dance and they are really good at it too. They compete and everything and they've been doing it for 6+ years.
