Bioshock Infinite creator Irrational Games will cease to be as we know them, but it's not the end for the team, several are forming a new one under daddy company, 2K. Full Article for details. http://www.gamefreaks.co.nz/2014/02/19/bioshock-studio-irrational-games-close-doors/
I actually like the prospect of a new writer taking over the Bioshock story, if 2K decide to make another, which they probably will. Apart from that, I really wonder if Ken Levine can focus himself better with a smaller project instead of overcomplicating it.
It's kind of unfortunate how easy it is to put an enterprising auteur spin on what is essentially firing hundreds of people. I just hope those laid off can find work with the clout the Irrational name affords them, or that they have among them people with the drive and talent to make their own work.
This was the first thing that came to my mind. It just seems to have come so suddenly. Not even news in advice that they were thinking about doing this.
Most of the time, companies hire and fire after big projects, it's why you hear of so many layoffs. It's kinda like movies, you hire the people for that job but you don't keep them around forever. Warner borthers don't have one group of film makes to create a film, the hire new people each time. Some studios do keep to themselves, but more common is the hiring and firing process. It's just a mobile business really. But it is a crap move to dissolve your studio to make a smaller team for your own gain, leaving people without jobs. But they'll be hired, people are always being scouted.
