I think I may have a slight problem with this.
I know I need to get my work done, but whenever I try to work, I can't concentrate, and I always think something like, "I wonder if anyone e-mailed me," or "How are my friends doing?"

I'd really like to spend time on the 'net, but I know my work is more important.
    Help?

Same problem here...my room looks like a trash bin because I'm too busy on the interweb...I usually just think that most of my friends would be happier if I would do my work first so I don't have to sneak on like I'm doing now.

Yus. Sadly, the interweb is my life.
    NO, not really.
But it is a much bigger part of it than it should be :\

    I have the same problem.

Make a wallpaper that says in big letters "DO NOT GO ON THE INTERNET"

And at the bottom write "Unless you're done with your work or you need to go on for an assignment."

    Worked for me.

Just force yourself man. Have more things to do like go over to a friends house or play b-ball at the Y. You just have to get away from the computer, then make yourself forget about. Thats how it stopped for me.

Unplugging the computer and locking it away is the only hope you have.

    [/joke]

XD I'd just try getting as much as you can done at school during your classes. That would be ideal. That way you don't have much to do at home. If you have something little, do it RIGHT when you get home.

hm....well a solution is to unplug at least the internet from your comp. (since I have wireless, it's easy to.) Or you can probably work in a different area that is not close to a computer.

    These sorta worked for me.

That also goes one with me, when i get back from school, i go to my parents, greet them, then head to the computer check mail and be glad to have mail. The whole thing makes me want to use it more, and more, then myspace, then youtube, then more

    So it's also in me

    need help with it?

I try to get it out of my mind by going out doing all the things i can outside, go to the park, walk around, etc.

One of my solutions is to get my work done BEFORE I go home. That way I can use the internet without pressure and stress. Usually works for me.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure most of us suffer from this. (Or is it really suffering if we're having fun?)

It seems sort of pointless, though...because I'll stay on even when I'm bored and just want to get off. I just can't tear myself away from my computer! I wonder what it is that we're so hooked to.

Its same to me, DP. When I use internet too much, I cannot to my work properly. I'll try to rush to finish my homework. and in the end, when I get back my book from my school teacher, I will get many mistakes or carelessness. But I tried to thing of my work and do more homeworks, I get better a lot.

You should set your cell-phone next to you and buzz everytime someone e-mails you, maybe then you won't worry so much.

Bah, we're all junkies around here DP.
    Welcome to the intercrack xD

I sometimes try to pull the plug...or just type a password that I can't possibly remember xD.
But I just don't have the heart. I sometimes stay up very very late just to talk to you guys a bit.

I learned to force myself to stop though. It's slowly working....Sloooooooooowly.

I totally believe in an addiction to the internet. Why else would I be on here at one in the morning?

I think that what gets us addicted to forums in general is the the social aspect of it. You can meet new people who share the same interests as you and learn more about the different ways people do things. I also believe it's a little bit of letting your true self out. Everyone longs to be themselves but are frightened by how others may react. Online you can do whatever, and if someone insults you for it your can just leave the board and they'll never see you again.

The addiction to online games (RPG's, Tetris) is that it provides a thrill that we couldn't otherwise achieve without the internet.
