interest check - ygo tournament?

K so Haya and I have been feelin the yugioh hype lately and have been blowing up the Discord chat with our ygo ramblings. So of course we are now proposing a ygo tournament to y'all khv peeps. Let us know if you want to participate and when (if) we have enough people we'll get going. We need at least 8 players, but will cap it at 16 if enough people are interested. Each game will be a 2 out of 3 match held on devpro and will use the April 2016 banlist, the most recent banlist on devpro.

In order to avoid time-zone problems we're only going to have one round per day, with the final two rounds being on the same day. This means that if 8 people are playing and we start on Sunday, the last day will be Monday, and if 16 people are playing the last day will be Tuesday.

We're going to need each match to have at least one spectator to validate the game. Reason being that devpro will glitch out occasionally. Rare, but it happens. So to hopefully avoid any problems, announce your game in the Discord chat before playing and make sure at least one person is there to spectate. Also while playing keep your chat on Discord rather than using the devpro chat. It's up to you and the other person to decide when your game will be, as long as it happens on the appropriate day.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, the only card restrictions we'll be using are in the banlist above. Other than that, anything goes.

So what are you using to play with? Because I'd be interested, but I only know of Dueling Network and YGO Pro

Funny thing, I just finished watching the last dubbed episodes of GX yesterday.

And then I watched the Japanese version of Yugi vs Jaden/Judai as well as the JP Openings. Holy shit 4Kids dropped the ball with not showing those openings...

Like. The Japanese version of GX (and ygo in general tbh) is so much better, don't get me wrong. The dub erased a lot of the things that made the show what it was (eg, Judai/Jaden's sexuality and the grittier points of his character arc, Asuka/Alexis's personality, seASON FOUR), and honestly to first time watchers I will always recommend the subs.

But I have such a soft spot for the dubs for the first three series of YGO. I recognize how cheesy and not-great they are, but they're very much what I grew up on and if you like ygo and want a laugh they're great and I have such a deep love for the dub.

Except Zexal. Fuck the Zexal dub. Watch that shit subbed. the arc-v dub is okay i guess but i still prefer the subs.

 

YO I haven't played YGO in like 8 years but I would be interested in playing. Definitely gotta catch up on all the new stuff though since I stopped playing ~mid GX lol

Also everyone should watch the dub for the first series of YGO specifically for gold like this

 

I don't care how old that is, Seto Kaiba is one of the best protagonists of any form of media out there.

I personally haven't played it much either, but I do get into it now and then again. I did keep up with the DS games too, but only for the world championship stuff. Once they stopped after 5Ds i was disappointed. I've seen all of the original yugioh, GX (dub and subbed season 4), and most of 5Ds, about 2/3 of Zexal. I have to finish 5Ds, but i hate how they never dubbed it all, because of stuff that happened. I do think 5Ds had the darkest story, though you don't get much darker than "shadow games" either...so it's a toss up.

 

GO WATCH ARC-V

 

Oh i know all about Arc-V, but I watch dubbed when I can, and it's not far enough. Though I do have a general summary of events to this point with them....stopping there for anyone who doesn't know. But I still think the original and 5Ds are my personal favorites. Plus, there's something about pendulum summoning that just didn't seem to be all that exciting compared to when we got Synchro and Xyz.


Also, I suggest a separate tournament where we all use only structure decks with no editing at all, just for the fun of it.

it's simple. I had a simulation duel with 61 to get used to it, and luckily everything it automated. And I haven't played in more than 2 years, so need a better excuse

 

Lemme send you some deck ideas that resemble the older style stuff from first season.

Also, LittleKuriboh (Martin Billany) is amazing for stuff like that and revitalizing a LOT of people's love for Yugioh (including mine)

tbh me too? I'm super behind, by probably about a year at this point, but I just can't seem to find the time to catch up. I know the basic plot points of whats been happening thanks to friends, but I really need to just sit down and finish it.
