I just got told that instructions are for dummies. I dont read instructions, unless I'm desperate. But still, what the hell? People arent exactly dumb if they need an instruction manual..... or are they?

    It's up for debate.

Instruction manuals are there for a reason. They are there to guide you through a specific process to achieve the end result. Having said that, when it comes to video games, I only use the manual to know the button layouts at the beginning and then refer back to it if i've not played the game in a long time just as a refresher.

Sure some people don't use instruction's / manuals, but that is there own choice. They shouldn't be judging someone else because of it.

If I may quote Doug Dimmadome (sp?) for a moment..."Nobody reads the instruction manuals!"

Except for maybe me. I buy a new game, and the first thing I do is read the manual to get a gist of how to play. I buy some electronic device, I read the manual. It's not because I'm stupid, it's because I'm trying to be careful and not permanently screw something up because I didn't read the manual.

Same here, I usually don't read the instruction manual for games. Tutorials can usually give me enough info on how to play the game. But for most everything else, I read the manuals. The few times I didn't ended badly...

I read instruction manuals out of curiousity. I like knowing how to do everything with whatever I buy. Sometimes manuals are the only things that will give you information that you probably can't learn on your own.

In video games, I usually read the manual, but mainly for information about characters/voice-actors etc. (I started the habit way before I started to use the internet)

In other stuff, I read the first few steps, and try to figure out the rest on my own...
And by the time the bookshelf is looking like a jungle-gym, I go back to the manual for help.
