I' ve just stumbled upon this, a 3 hours interview with Keiji Inafune. He explains what Capcom (and Japanese developers in general) has become and why he decided to leave. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411847
Really old news to me. He deleted his blog as well. I'm not sure if I should be glad that he's gone. He hasn't been responsible for a good Megaman game in a long time. Hopefully someone new comes along with fresh ideas. Inafune said he didn't like his job. Simple as that. I'm happy to see that his primary concern isn't money, he seems to be an honest or so fellow. Despite what I think of him as a developer, I hope he finds something that makes him happy.
I haven' t played any Megaman since the Snes era so I wouldn' t know. In the interview he said he was tired of seeing the gamers throwing flowers at Capcom when the games were good and throwing blames at him when the games were bad. Not the job itself, he didn' t like the way he was asked to do it. In his position he didn' t even had to implicate himself in games development, he could just sit at his desk and throw orders around. If, like he says, there isn' t any executive that actually knows what a video game actually is then Capcom indeed has a serious problem. He stated that when he gave his resignation he didn' t receive a single letter/phone call to ask him why. Reading this interview gave me a clearer picture of the problem with next-gen J-games (coughFFXIIIcough).
Yeah, I saw this too. I only knew of his recent work in Dead Rising. Still the fact that he has left means he didn't enjjoy his job that much, so I guess I can't blame the guy. Good luck to him.
Soon enough I knew this was going to happend. I think I've read somewhere that he was being treated unfairly when he wanted to make a new Megaman title a few years back. And they immediately turned him down for no apparent reason. Also when I heard about his blog being deleted I knew something was up.
