In the COM manga, I remember seeing her reading a book either about or written by the author Marquis de Sade. I was curious about who this man was, so I did a little research on him. He was the namesake of sadism, and he wrote many books and had done several plays, all with a violent sadistic twist in an almost sexual way. So I assume from this, in the manga, Larxene's malicious personality and her desire to cause pain for others derive from reading books from this author. It may also suggest that she reads other books from similar to this, which would all make sense to why she is so sadistic. However, this makes me wonder - the very first time she had felt pleasure from causing others pain, would it really just come from a book she had read? I mean, it might've been the tool in making her even more malevolent, but where had it truly first started from? In your opinion? I'm really not sure where she could've enjoyed such pain...it's possible that as a Somebody, she's always delighted in others' agony, so now, as a Nobody, she remembers this and draws these 'feelings' from her memory, and, almost as an instinct, causes pain for others just for fun, thinking it will please her, even though she really can't feel anything anymore. But as a Somebody...I truly have no idea how she was like, as the manga - or even the game - makes no inkling of her past, so I don't have the slightest idea of how she first became sadistic.

Huh. The book or series of books made by the author that Larxene reads probably does have to with her love for torturing people, or maybe it has to do with an experiance while she was a somebody. But then again, you probably are right.

Good observation. As a Nobody ( :) ), I can tell she does enjoy other people's pain like you said-but she can't enjoy, she can only pretend to have feelings. But she is one of the most violent of the group, besides Marluxia; that's the truth. But I also have a question: although Marquis de Sade writes about violence in a "sexual way," why would she read something about that?

Remember that the author of the manga could've put that in there- hidden themes or whatever they're called. I dont think Square would've put something like that in the game(s).

    I don't think so.
I think Larxene is just naturally sadistic, or she is just sadistic to make it seem like she is feeling.
The books she read is just probably books she likes to read.

I see...thanks. And, yes, I doubt they would put that in the games.

Well Marquis De Sade was basically the namesake of Sadism so that's a little hint of why they'd do that.

Besides she seems only violent in a way that she gets regular happiness not sexual (or sensual) pleasure from other peoples pain.

And she flirts with Axel in Re:com so we know she can't possibly be naturally Asexual if she has feelings for Axel (be they fake or not her past memories as a somebody would make her feel loove for somene right? because Axel felt love for roxas in the form of friendship even though they both had no hearts).

Wow.. me and Larxene are alike.. i like seeing people get hurt or tortured

  9. I think the Marquis de Sade book was simply a joke, like always, on the author's part. Since Larxene is sadistic, he just kind of placed the book of the man who was the namesake of sadism. I don't think there's anything else other than that connection that was meant to be placed.

People take it seriously though xD. I read many fanfics where Marquis de Sade is like her freaking favorite book, and decapitates anyone who touches it xP. Not to mention, it drove people to think that she reads novels. Though it does fit her.

I take more game canon than manga canon, because the manga goes its own way. Larxene, even thought she represents feminism and a bit of, you have to admit, sensuality (the sensuality part of her goes overboard in the manga, that is self-explainable -_-), I don' think she's the sexual sadist either, like most put her to be. She seemed more like a bully, than anything. Loves putting people down, she crosses your personal borders to make you edgy about her, and she loves to hurt others when fighting and seeing the pain she gives them, but other than that, Larxene taunts to annoy, mostly (a example would be when she keeps giving biting remarks at Repliku,, and he gets so irritated, he charges and attacks her. That didn't end well for him).

But that's all I saw. Her other assets of her personality, are that she's playful, naïve, flirty, coy, has dry and ill humor, arrogant, confident, extremely prideful, and laid-back when not battling. That's normal. And she seemed to be cool and someone to hang out with to the people who she doesn't mind their company. And evertyime I watch her in a scene, I keep seeing that she's a deeper character than what was presented. Mostly, is her death that got to me.

How Larxene is sadist, I don't know. I don't think is sure whether you're born with it, or it grows overtime. Maybe is just something people enjoy.

But like califa630 said, is probably her way to feel, in other words, her "Proof of Existance". We don't know much about her character to guess what made her the way she is now. She might have had a bad past, learned from a bad environment, who knows.

I think the Marquis de Sade thing was a little joke from the author. That's it. Larxene IS a sadist. She just likes to see people hurt. (Personally, I think it's mostly because Axel isn't flirting back, but that's just my opinion.) But there are some definite differences between Larxene in the manga and Larxene in Re:CoM. For one, in the manga, Larxene is definitely more of a hothead and would launch lightning at you if you looked at her wrong. In the game, Larxene is much more laid back, but would still launch lighting at you just to see you in pain. I hated her in the manga, but in all the cutscenes I've seen her in, she cracks me up. It's almost two different characters.

It's fun to hear people say she flirts with Axel (although it is true in RE: CoM). Axel just doesn't like her because he knows how I feel about that. Although, I have to admit, her reading books does fit her personality well, and she's become my favorite member, despite her different likings than I. She is an attach-on character, though I absolutly hated her in CoM.
