I'm not sure how many people know this song or John lennon but both have really shaped the world in which we live in. John lennon was basically a world renown musical artist in the 60s/70s/ One of his songs was called 'Imagine' and has a message that most consider to be of universal peace and is, in a way, the national anthem of peace activists around the world.

Here is the video and song on Youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0

    And here are the lyrics:

    Imagine

    Imagine there's no heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky

    Imagine all the people
    Living for today... I...

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too

    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace...

    Yo-o-o-u,
You may say Im a dreamer
But Im not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

    Imagine no possesions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man

    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world...

    Yo-o-o-u,
You may say Im a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

The question I want to ask is, do you believe this song is just that, a song, or do you believe it to be a message that we should all acknowledge and fight for?

I always thought of the song as a sort of message. It's hard to describe the message, but I don't really need to, it's pretty clear in the song. I've been called a dreamer in the past, and I wasn't sure whether that was a good thing or a bad thing. But after listening to this song, I'm proud to be a "dreamer".

That song is one of my all time favorite songs. I love the message in it and it is inspiring. John Lennon was a really interesting person and very creative. It's sad he had to die when he did and this song was definitely one of the songs that may have encouraged the very religious radical psychopath to kill him. The guy who did the deed was a Beatles fan but also extremely religious so when things conflicted..well we know how it ended up. Despite the tragedy, the song lives on.

However, one thing that annoyed me about this song was that instead of the line 'and no religion too' some Christians went and changed the line to 'and -one- religion too' which canceled out his message and also gives credit in a way to his death by a zealot psychopath. I will never get how that was permitted.

It's an interesting concept, but it sounds more like a socialist anarchy to me. Just my opinion.

This song is an inspiration, and I always thought of Lennon as one, too. I recall hearing this song...I think, but I do like his songs.

The message shows, but it goes deeper then that. Hard to explain, kinda.

I had to do this for English in high school. I remember finding it a bit less inspirational than others but I appreciate the message, however I don't see many others actually buying into it. Probably because it projects a world without problems, but also one with nothing after it, people tend to get a bit antsy when you tell them they've only got a hundred years and then they're worm food. Whatever, I'm thinking too much into this. I like the song well enough and I like the message, even if it's an impossible dream.

I really feel inspired from John Lennon's song, it gives a deep and meaningful message. Why he had to die, because some idiotic person had a bad opinion about him...

I like how he's putting over a message, and one day the dream may become possible, who knows?

I never really understood the part when he said 'no relegion too' because as far as I know he was a Buddhist. Seemed a little hypocritical, but still his message was pretty clear.

His message was probably like any other hippy, so to say, powerful yet simple words for peace. It was a dream of his, a dream of many people. But that is all it is, a dream, the chance of a united world are not going to happen in this lifetime, but I believe the human race could slowly be whole.

It slightly pormotes anarchy, in the sense that Lennon knew that the continual and multiple wars around the world were making things worse for everyone, and if everyone just co-operated they would od better.

Buddhism isn't really a religion when practiced in some ways. If alone without incorporating local things to it, it can just be a path to helping clear the mind and learning meditations, being at peace and understanding yourself. I believe he was into that sort of Buddhism rather than an actual religious version.
