Just got myself into another religious argument...on Facebook.
    Goddamn, I'm a living stereotype.

For the longest time, I thought the phrase was "The Power of Christ Repels You." Like...in exorcisms, the Power of Christ repels the demon from the body.

why would anyone have a religious argument anyway?

unless the religious person confronted you, openly provoking you into an argument, what's the point? and even then it doesn't seem worth it.

In my opinion everyone should shut up about what they believe, religious or not, and let everyone live however they see fit.

    too much tension these days

The only problem with that is that everyone has to feel superior to everyone else, and be validated.

Half of the population is atheist in my country. We probably have a few cuckoo crazy religious freaks hidden somewhere, I just never met any irl. Most of the religious "arguments" I' ve had, if we can call' em that, I' ve had on US forums.

I' m sure I would fit what you call the atheist stereotype much more if I lived in a country whose religion chart looks like a pacman and if its separation of state and church was spat on daily, but religion just isn' t an issue at all in my day to day life (despite half of my family being catholic).

I am athiest myself and have a rather unique point of view. I personally think all Religion is false and shouldn't exist.

I'm a Christian, and I could care less what people decide to believe as long as

    1) you are not a dick by "feeling superior" to others because of your beliefs
    2) you don't think you're automatically smarter because you do/do not believe in something
    3) whatever you believe keeps you from stabbing me at the ATM.

All religions have their extremists, and so do atheists. Both sides will have people who feel they are superior to the other and will try to shove it down your throat. Honestly, everyone should just leave each other's beliefs alone and respect them, whether they're religious or not.

It is true that there are many extremists within many religions and within Atheism. But are also people who are only classed as a member of the religion because they were baptized or because they don't celebrate something. But there are also people like myself who have hidden beliefs that they choose not to broadcast to other people. So as long as you don't try to change me or waste my time with what I believe is trivial beliefs we are fine.

Exactly. I'm not an atheist, but I still respect your atheistic views.

Hey, just because you believe in a religion doesn't mean that you have to be silent about it. My friend is Muslim and when people start wrongly associating her with terrorism, she has to say something about it. So, I say it's okay to say what you believe in as long as you aren't shoving it down people's throats.

And that's my obligatory religion argument on the internet.

Funny you should say that. I happen to be a Muslim myself. The issue here is shoving beliefs down people's throats, which is something I'm against. Now associating me and many other Muslims with terrorism is an act of hate that should be opposed.

Religion is like a penis. It's okay to have one, and even to be proud of it, but don't whip it out in public, or force it down people's throats.

    ...So I let it rip.

Ah, yes, I probably wouldn' t resist answering to this. ^^
I assume you pointed out we don' t get to choose our beliefs. Anyone who disagrees is free to stop believing in gravity and jump out of a tenth-storey window.
