I think I found the inspiration for Death Note.

The manga was written in 2003. This song was released in 2002. And there are a lot of Death Note based themes. Trains, heart attacks, and people being possesed to kill themselves. Its simply to blantantly the same.

Please note, the video doesn't show gore, but it does have a little blood. And lots of death refferences. All animated though. If you watched death note, you won't find this violent at all.

The song itself is about the giant ratrace people run in life... called "work" and how frustrating it is. Its told from the perspective of someone commiting suicide, thinking about everything he worked for.

I find the end to be quite disturbing.

 

It didn't remind me of Death Note at all. I mean it seems more about the life and fight of a salary man in a monotonous and stressful life driven by the worlds need to move forwards than anything else.

 

Actually... the writer of death note originally wrote the story with the only moral of the story that people die all the time... a moral which the video shows very well.
