Help I need friendly advice for my own new forum

Ok, I'm making a forum for me and my youth group who only get together about once a month,
since we all like each other as Catholics and we rarely get to see each other.

But since we're teens, I've noticed alot of the other group members are internet people,
which means communication via forum would make the gap smaller.

I made it with a Phpbb free forum maker,
and I'm the main Admin, BaseSebastian.(What I'm going to change my name to on here once I can xP)

Problems:

No new main-topics, no subtopics, no threads.
How do I make all of those as admin?

I ask because this is a more proffessional looking phpbb forum.
Or at least I think it is...

Just whoever is familiar with phpbb forum making,
please help!

 

Just go into the option that's something like Forum Categories, and make some. Then just navigate the board as you would this one and post stuff. Although I must say, invisionfree and IPB board are a lot more customizable.

 

Are they free?

Because I figured out how to use the forum on phpbb,
and I've got quite a bit writen...xD

Another question,
as an admin,
how can I change usernames of other users.

Hellkitten from this forum joined mine,
and since it's a Catholic-Teen forum,
the "Hell" part may or may not go over well with the other members,
probably definately won't go over well with parents,
that's for sure.

And she has offered to change her name.
If she can.

Xen, Fireflame is not very wellknown as of yet,
but I know him.

Check the Role-play arena,
then go to Cross-over.

We have been "tagging" between each other on a role play who nobody else has really participated in.
There's something around 100 posts I believe.

And I've seen the Chillzone personally.
It's a good forum.

All the same,
I probably won't make anyone an admin for a while.
Not until I get a real hang of forum making.

If you need some help with phpbb forums still, give me a PM and I'll try to aid you. I have some phpbb boards I have hosted for rpgs so I am pretty familiar with them and can go on mine to walk you through if you are having trouble with the admin issues, so you won't have to risk making someone an admin if you didn't want to.
