In the event prior to Ryuzaki's death, we see him on the roof of that one building and it's raining and such. Light goes over to talk to him, in which Ryuzaki says "I hear the bells, they've been ringing non-stop all morning." Then he starts trailing on about "the bells", I don't quite understand what he means when he's talking about "the bells". We know Light didn't hear them, since he openly said he didn't hear them. This scene is only in the anime, and not in the manga, so it's clear this part is just a filler, but I still want to understand it. Can someone explain to me what Ryuzaki meant when he was talking about "the bells"? It seems obvious, but it seems he means more than just church bells when he talked about "the bells".

I think he meant that he thought his death was coming close. The sound of the bells was in his mind and they were probably signaling his death

    I agree with this.
"Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee," or whatever the saying is.
