I had an episode of Doctor Who recorded on my TV from a year ago

And it reminded me of how much I hate Rose, and why I can't watch Doctor Who anymore because I hate Amy.

Ugh why can't there be a companion as good as Donna again
At least bring Captain Jack back, I didn't watch Torchwood Miracle Day, but he seemed to be able to juggle his Torchwood branch and the Doctor just fine before(except not really).

Amy is probably going to die by episode 7 of Series 7 anyway. Then Clara will be introduced.

    Question is: Who's hotter?

    Clara.

Amy is hideous. Not in looks, but in personality.

Also, her pain is being used as a plot device, and that does not sit well with me.

So I take it you're happy that she's going to stop being a companion?

It'll give me a reason to watch the show again.

I think she should've been off ages ago.

I heard that Oswin is going to be the new one in December, but that could just be rumors, I only saw the first episode of the new season, and Amy's ****** and annoying story plot pissed me off so much that I decided to stop watching, so I haven't been keeping up with the news.

Of course, I'm pretty sure she died, but whatever, rumors are rumors.

I'm curious, what episode are you referring to where Amy's pain was being used as a plot device?

That's a good question. Well he did say "first episode of the new season", so I'm assuming it might be Asylum of the Daleks. And if that's the case then calling her pain a plot device is wrong.

A plot device is something that drives the plot or resolve situations, be it an object or a person. Something neither her
temp. devorce with Rory and infertility did.

Well if the reference is to
her losing her wristband and being converted into a Dalek, that works into the plot, certainly. The divorce with Rory was just... eh. I dunno. I mean I think we have to see the Ponds to their end to fully understand its larger context, but I do think it was a bit out of nowhere. However, it is still contextual, I guess? Number one, Amy has always been kind of unwilling/unable to settle down with Rory. The divorce might be a side effect of that, in addition to the children thing. Because the Ponds still largely have a choice of Doctor vs. real life. They're more gravitating towards the latter, lately, but maybe Amy still is trying to run, in a way.

As for the infertility though, I never got that impression! I didn't think she was seriously infertile, just that Demon's Run was so traumatic for her. I don't remember if it was explicitly stated.

I'm actually on the fence with Amy

Sometimes I love the direction she's going in, and then it can all turn to crap an episode later. But I do agree her pain is being used to advance the plot most of the time, which isn't fair.

I love Donna and Rose, though.

If we considered every possible near death of a companion, like Amy being turned into a Dalek puppet or a Dalek, a plot device then every single companion ever would be considered one.
If Finn is refering to Amy's sudden infertility and divorce then it really should be called a subplot to the episode instead of a plot device, and losing her wristband a plot point that untimately resolves said subplot. As I said before a plot device is something that drives the plot or resolves situations, and if there is any plot device in Asylum of the Daleks the only thing that could be considered that is Oswin.

I'm pretty sure they did. Here's a quote:
I'm pretty sure they are saying she's infertile. If they had meant she was so traumatized by the experience she didn't want kids then they really should have made it more clear.

Ah see, I thought that she said
So maybe I'm just hearing wrong? Still, I think it's quite unclear. I just dunno haha.

Amy’s guilt is a perfectly understandable, human reaction, this whole situation is awful. Because Amy’s infertility was introduced solely as a reason for Amy and Rory to get divorced. Her feelings about her torture and abuse aren’t addressed at all, because this isn’t about Amy, it’s about her and Rory as a couple and the drama caused by putting their marriage in peril. Amy has now been in forced psychiatric care as a child, had her memories of her husband erased, been shot by her husband, had her consciousness put into a Flesh clone, been held in captivity for nine months, made to give birth in an unfamiliar environment only to have her baby ripped away from her, discovered her best friend is actually her daughter, had her memory played with AGAIN in an alternate reality, killed her kidnapper and found out she is infertile because of her abuse. And it seems none of that matters compared to her status in the story as one half of the golden couple, because god forbid HER problems get in the way of THEIR happiness. Her pain is being used as a plot device. That does not ****ing sit well with me.

With all due respect (I agree with some of the things you've said!), the show is about the Doctor, at the end of the day. The companions are certainly important, and it's fun to have companion centered episodes, but right now, we've already seen the Doctor's guilt over all that has happened to Amy by herself (GOD COMPLEX GOD COMPLEX GOD COMPLEX); now,we see him/traveling with him once again affecting their relationship. The Amy/Doctor/Rory love triangle kind of ended after Amy and Rory got married, and now they seem to be leaning more and more towards settling down, but there's still very interesting to see how traveling with the Doctor would affect a marriage. With Rose, we saw how it affected her relationship with Mickey and her mom; with Martha, her family; with Donna, her family; this is the first time in the reboot (and perhaps in the whole show? not familiar with Classic Who) that we see a marriage placed before the Doctor.

Likewise, though, it's very in character for Amy to not go into her own personal sufferings. She tends to brush them off as a matter of pride, because she always wants to appear strong.

I didn't like the Doctor much either.

The moment when he forced a Dalek to kill itself and then pushed it into a room full of other Daleks so it could take them out in the blast was shockingly cruel— especially when you consider that brilliant scene in Dalek during Christopher Eccleston’s run, where Rose stops the Doctor from killing a lone Dalek in cold blood.

Though I will agree with you about Amy, that makes sense. I just hadn't looked past my dislike of her to realize that. Her reactions made sense based off of her entire character profiling, so I get it, but I still hate her.

Also, the relationship thing is pretty new, it hasn't ever happened before. Though, the most fantastic thing was Tom baker's Doctor with Sarah Jane, and then when they said their farewells, Sarah Jane went off to save people from aliens on Earth the best she could. Oh god.t hat was such a great story.

The interesting thing about Eleven is that he can be quite vicious--and that's something we're seeing really brought out in him in the seventh series. Eccleston had the same trait (Tennant did at times too), and was, as you said, stopped by Rose. Tennant was also stopped by whoever his companion was, and Eleven has been stopped by Amy several times too. The problem is now, Eleven hasn't been regularly traveling with the Ponds. He picks them up every few months. This is basically what A Town Called Mercy is about, for the larger plot/Doctor's characterization. Add to this the theory that's been floating around that
one of the Ponds has already died, and the Doctor is going backwards in their timeline
it explains how dark the Doctor has become. Consider also that:
    1. For the Doctor, it's been 300 years since he traveled with Rose, Martha, and Donna.
    2. At one point in the 7th series (can't remember where), the Doctor states he's 1200. He was 1100 at the close of series 6. He's had 100 years on his own.
And no worries, I know plenty of people that like the show but simply don't like Amy. I felt the same thing about Martha.

Ah yeah see, I don't know Classic Who. They did approach the point a little with Rose and Mickey, but it wasn't all that talked about.

You keep bringing up things that I've never thought of, you're right.

It's kind of sad though, because I still like to think of the Doctor as an extreme pacifist, but it's starting to take a turn as the series progresses. I think I'm so stuck on the happy-go-lucky crazy old, alien-fighting man that I've been used to with the Doctor for my entire childhood. It's like evry time he gets violent, or there's a different character that I can't ignore, it disappoints me. I'm not trying to be a hipster about it, because I freaking loved Eccleston's season, and Tennant was okay, but it's just so hard for me to enjoy Matt Smith's seasons. I don't know if it's because I find Amy's personality completely intolerable, and I see Rory as a weak, whipped girl, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy the series like I used to with my grandpa.
