In KH I think they said Sephiroth was a manifestation of Cloud's darkness and Cloud would have to do battle with him until he can either keep the darkness in his heart rested or destroy it all together.
This is right. He's not a heartless/nobody/unbirth/or even another human. Cloud has to defeat him to be at peace with himself or some other zen like thing
What I believe, is that Sephiroth is the physical manifistation of his past. He has done wrong in the past, but is working on rebuilding his life, but in he is still haunted by his past. He has to come to terms with what he's done, and defeating Sephiroth is apparently the only way to do that.
I think that Sephiroth is a reflection of what cloud is capable of becoming without light to guide his way.Sephiroth is also what stops cloud from becoming a person of pure darkness.
It's hard to say. I'm not exactly sure what Sephiroth is in KH. He seems the closest to a heartless, and he might be, but he has human form. Unless he's something like Xehanort's Heartless, but then people other than Cloud would be able to kill him. So I guess I think that Sephiroth is something that hasn't been explained fully in the KH series. He probably never will be, either. xD
Sephiroth is nothing but a villain to Cloud. He has no mental, physical or genetic connection to Cloud at all. He was born a human by Lucrecia and Hojo and just happened to grow up evil. The relationship they have in KH is completely un-canon to the storyline of the original Final Fantasy universe, and thus it doesn't really matter, but I do believe it was said that Sephiroth is somehow Cloud's darkness.
In Kingdom Hearts, it is said that Sephiroth is Cloud's darkness. If you want the real relationship from FFVII (a little bit of a spoiler if you ever want to play FFVII), then read the white text. Cloud is a copy or clone of Sephiroth, though Cloud doesn't figure this out until later on in the game.
Cloud is not a clone of Sephiroth. It is very commonly misconceived that he is, but he really isn't. If you had paid very close attention to the storyline, you would have found out that Cloud was -supposed- to be a clone of Sephiroth, but instead turned into a failed experiment by Hojo.
Ooops, guess I forgot about that part. I haven't played VII in a while, and now I remember that, and you're right. Guys, ignore what I said. xD
You see, when they say that Sephiroth is the "embodiment of Cloud's Darkness", they don't mean that litterally. What they meant by that was that Sephiroth is the person Cloud hates most, and that hate is the actual darkness in his heart. In a nutshell, Sephiroth is just a guy that's driving Cloud crazy.
