INTRO Long ago, battles raged between Humans and Hybrids. Their battles came from arguments and eventually turned to all out war. Humans looked down upon Hybrids because they were different from themselves. Hybrids were merely Humans with animal DNA, which altered their appearance. The most common Hybrids were wild cats, wolves, and birds (particularly ravens or red tailed hawks). One Hybrid, named Amaya (16), lost both of her parents to the war. Her Familiar cat, named Tayuya, and herself were the only ones who survived the slaughter of Amaya’s village. Tayuya rides on Amaya’s shoulder when she gets tired of walking. Amaya seeks to find the leader of the slaughter of her village. She carries a long black staff, encrusted with rubies and curved at the end. Amaya doesn’t try to hide her ears or tail from Humans; anyone who wants a fight with her will get one. A particular Human, known as Mareo (17), spends most of his time playing his guitar and ignoring the war around him. His Familiar, Niwa, is a being of Darkness, but loyal to the end. Unlike most other Familiars, Niwa fights alongside Mareo when he engages in battle. Mareo uses a sword with an emerald and sapphire encrusted hilt. Mareo wears an obsidian necklace given to him by his brother before his brother went to war. Unbeknownst to these two, their paths would meet up and they would have to make choices that would affect the future of their world. I'm working on the first chapter right now. ^^ I'll put it up as soon as it's done.
Here's what I have of the first chapter. CHAPTER ONE Mareo sat on the steps to his house. The town was quiet and the sound of his guitar echoed through the air. Niwa gently nudged his leg. Mareo sighed. “You know me, buddy; I never make lyrics to go with my songs.†He gently patted Niwa’s head. When Niwa made a disapproving squeak, Mareo laughed slightly. “I guess I might start some day.†He strummed a low note and stared at the clouds. “Hey!†Mareo looked up at the sound of Idate’s voice. “You just gonna sit there and play that thing till you break the strings?†“Eh, probably not,†Mareo stood, slinging the guitar over his shoulder. “How ‘bout we go practice?†“As long as it’s swords and not guitars!†Idate joked. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll meet you there.†Mareo went into his house, followed by Niwa. He went to his room and placed his guitar on its stand. Next to his guitar was his sword, sheathed and newly sharpened. He ran his hand along its hilt, over the emeralds and sapphires. “Guess I have to start using this more soon….†He sighed. Niwa looked up at him worriedly. Mareo left his house after explaining to his dad where he was going. He trudged towards the training area, listening to the familiar sound of the jingle of his necklace. Niwa walked silently beside Mareo. “You don’t need any more training. Your skill with a sword comes naturally.†He told Mareo in his mind. “I know that, Niwa. But if I don’t practice, I’ll look like an oddball to the others and then there’ll be rumors going around like a hurricane.†Mareo sighed. “As long as you are comfortable,†Niwa muttered. ~* ~ * ~ * ~ *~ Mareo opened the door to the training area. He waved at Idate and joined him on the raised stone platform. Noting that Idate already had his sword out, he unsheathed his own. “Ready?†Niwa stayed off to the side. “Don’t get overconfident. Even someone as skilled as you is capable of error.†“Ready as I’ll ever be.†Idate smirked. “I won’t go easy.†Mareo ignored Niwa’s comment. “Alright then; Zangetsu and I won’t lose.†He readied his sword, which he called Zangetsu. Idate sighed. “Why do you insist on naming it? It’s a sword, it doesn’t need a name.†Mareo looked at Zangetsu. “I don’t know…. Zangetsu’s special, it could never be just a sword to me.†He shook his head. “Forget about it. Let’s just get started.â Idate shrugged. “Okay.†He readied his sword. “Today’s the day I’m finally going to beat you.†I'm thinking of changing the name of Mareo's sword.
That's a really nice story, u should write books or scripts for a movie or a game or something. A story about a hybrid girl and a human boy and revenge and everything... I like it a lot :satisfied:
Thanks. ^^ I've been writing songs, poems, short stories, and books since fifth grade. I love RPing cuz it's like writing a story with a bunch of friends, you never know what's gonna happen next! ^^ Here's more of the first chapter. ~* ~ * ~ * ~ *~ Amaya stroked Tayuya absentmindedly. They were sitting under a tree, taking a brief rest from their walk. “Three months…. It’s been three months since that day….†She said through grit teeth. “Too long for us to just be sitting here, Tayuya,†She stood up. “Ready to get going again?†Tayuya mewed in protest and curled into a ball in the grass. “Fine; I’ll carry you then.†Amaya picked up Tayuya and carried her like a baby. She started walking, heading for the village of Genko. Without realizing it, she started humming the lullaby that her mother had sung to her when she was little. Tayuya purred contently and soon fell asleep. Amaya looked up through the trees as she walked. The sun shone brilliantly against the leaves. “Another beautiful day and no one to spend it with,†She sighed. Changing Tayuya’s position to hold her in one arm, Amaya adjusted the weight of her staff on her back. A light breeze played at Amaya’s hair. She shut her eyes and stopped. The wind smelled of leaves and animals. Amaya picked up the sound of footsteps. She opened her eyes and quickly turned towards the sound. Human or Hybrid? She wondered. Not wanting to find out, she held Tayuya close to her and ran towards Genko. Don’t follow me. Please don’t follow me. I just want to make it to Genko as fast as possible. Slowly, the sounds faded and the trees became scarce. Amaya stopped to catch her breath. She looked down at Tayuya and smiled a bit when she saw Tayuya was still sleeping. Amaya looked over her shoulder. Once satisfied that she wasn’t being followed, she started walking again. Almost there. ~* ~ * ~ * ~ *~ Mareo’s and Idate’s swords clashed. They slid backwards along the stone, not breaking eye contact. “Go now.†Niwa urged. Mareo nodded and closed in on Idate. Zangetsu poised to hit Idate’s stomach. Idate blocked Zangetsu at the last second. “Not bad.†“I’d return that compliment, but-†Mareo twisted Zangetsu, forcing Idate’s sword downwards. He pulled Zangetsu back up and held it against Idate’s throat. Idate dropped his sword. “You win… again.†He mumbled. Mareo sheathed Zangetsu and put a hand on Idate’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. Maybe you’ll beat me next time.†He knelt and picked up Idate’s sword. Idate smiled and took his sword. “Next time, huh?†He sheathed his sword. “I’ll be working harder just for that time.†“Don’t hurt yourself.†Mareo said, walking away. “Hey, where are you going?†Idate asked. “Just for a walk outside,†Mareo responded. “Outside of Genko?†Idate was surprised. “But-†“Relax; I’m not gonna get killed. There aren’t any Hybrid villages near here.†Mareo was outside of the training building by the time he finished his sentence. Niwa hurried after Mareo. “Forgetting me?†"No; I knew you’d follow me. You’re my shadow, and that,†Mareo pointed to his shadow on the ground, “Is my second shadow.†“I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment or insult.†Niwa drawled. “Both.†Mareo laughed, exiting Genko. He strapped Zangetsu’s sheath to his belt. He stopped as his eyes met a Hybrid. ~* ~ * ~ * ~ *~ Amaya stared at the Human. She instinctively held Tayuya a little closer. Swallowing her paranoia, she walked forward, intending to go past the Human and continue on into Genko. Mareo put a hand on her shoulder. “You don’t want to go in there.†Something about this Hybrid made him concerned about her. Amaya jerked away. “Go worry about one of your own.†“What a lovely attitude.†Niwa remarked. Mareo rolled his eyes at Niwa but looked earnestly at Amaya. “You won’t find any of your kind in Genko.†“I’m not looking for my kind.†Amaya looked into Mareo’s eyes, her tail twitched angrily. “I’m looking for the leader of your army.†“Oh….†Mareo thought about some of the stories he’d been hearing around the village. “Where are you from?†“You’re not interested.†Amaya looked him over. Swordsman with a Familiar… and he looks decently strong too. If I fight him, it’d be a pretty even match. “I am.Mareo was surprised at the truth in those words. This Hybrid is different than the others. Amaya sighed. “My village was destroyed and its entire people killed by your army. Anything else you want to know?†“You name.†Mareo smiled. “It’s common courtesy to give one’s name before asking another’s.†Amaya smirked.
here you go! “My apologies; I am Mareo, and this,†He gestured to Niwa, “Is my Familiar, Niwa.†His eyes met Amaya’s; he found he had difficulty looking away. “My name is Amaya and this is my Familiar, Tayuya.†Amaya broke the eye contact. “Will you let me go in now?†“It won’t be any good for you to go in there. The army is out; won’t be back soon.†Mareo noticed her tail twitch. “Please, don’t be mad.†He moved closer to her. “I’ll help you if you’ll let me.†Amaya backed away. “You just want to get me alone so you can kill me and go back as a ‘hero’.†“She’s paranoid.†Niwa commented. “Of course; you heard what she’s gone through.†Mareo whispered to Niwa. “I’m not like that. I don’t like this war. But if you really want to find the leader of our army, I doubt you’ll be able to get to him if you did, he went about ten miles northeast from here. Go through the forest; it’s cuts the distance in half.†He told Amaya. Amaya looked skeptically at Mareo. “How I do know you’re not lying to me?†She spotted the necklace he was wearing. Mareo knew what she was looking at. “I don’t lie. Listen, it’s your choice what you do.†Amaya sighed. “Thanks….†She loosened her hold on Tayuya and started walking northeast. “Five miles and we’ve got him, Tayuya.†She spoke quietly. Tayuya squirmed and jumped out of Amaya’s arms. She meowed and kept close to Amaya’s feet. “No; we talked about this already. You’ve got to stay out of my way. I don’t want you getting hurt.†Amaya stuffed her hands in her pockets. “Got it?†Tayuya made an indignant noise. “I’ll tie you somewhere if I have to.†She threatened. Tayuya’s ears folded down. “Alright then; we understand each other now.†Amaya smiled. ~*~*~*~ “Why’d you do that? That was practically treason.†Niwa pointed out. “I don’t know…. I like her I guess.†Mareo shrugged. “Keep your head on straight. She’s a Hybrid. You should have killed her on the spot.†Niwa scowled. “I told you before: I don’t want to use Zangetsu unless I find someone worth fighting for.†Mareo put a hand on Zangetsu’s hilt, fingering the sapphire at the end. She just might be the one. I feel different about her than I do other Hybrids… CHAPTER TWO Amaya stopped at the top of a hill; she down at Tayuya. “We’re screwed,†The land on the other side of the hill was marshy and didn’t look like it could support much weight. Amaya sighed, “We’ve got to give it a try.†Tayuya jumped onto Amaya’s shoulder, making a pitiful noise. “You’re pathetic,†Amaya started down the hill. She grimaced at the wetness of the land. Just a few more miles, it’s just a few more miles. She kept repeating the comforting words in her head. ~*~ *~*~ Mareo walked back to his house. He took a letter out of the mail slot in the front door. “From the army,†When he thought of what it could say, his heart sunk. Niwa shook his head sadly, knowing what the letter said. Mareo’s hands shook as he opened his letter. “’Dear family of Takeshi Hikari, it is my grievance to inform you that Takeshi was felled at 3:42 PM on August 4, 1205’.†Mareo choked out the words. He couldn’t bring himself to read the rest of the letter. Niwa lowered his head respectfully. “I’m sorry, Mareo. I know how close you were to him.†Mareo’s hand went to his brother’s necklace. “I- I can’t believe it… He can’t… He can’t be…†He dropped the letter. Niwa caught the letter. He looked at the army seal. It’s authentic. So it can’t be a cruel joke… Poor Mareo… Mareo slammed his fist on the door. “I could have been there with him! I should have been there with him!†He hit the door again. A tendril of darkness wrapped around Mareo’s hand. “Calm yourself. Things happen for a reason. I’m sure Takeshi’s death was not in vain. Mareo, you need to pull yourself together and go do something that will get your mind off of Takeshi.†Mareo shook Niwa’s tendril off his wrist. “I’m okay… I just need some time…†“Doesn’t look like you had a good walk,†Idate sauntered up to Mareo and Niwa. “I just came to tell you that I’d won a sparring match, but I think you should do the talking.†“My brother’s been killed,†Mareo motioned to the letter Niwa was holding. “According to the letter, that was two days ago.†Idate hesitated, unsure of what to say. “If there’s anything I can do-†“That’s alright. You don’t have to waste your time.†Mareo didn’t want to hear condolences or ‘words of comfort’. “I’m just gonna go.†“‘Go’? Wait, what do you mean ‘go’? You’re not thinking of actually going going… are you?†Idate looked at Mareo worriedly and then at Niwa. Niwa shrugged. “Don’t ask me.†He said, even though he knew Idate couldn’t hear him. “Mareo, you should think this through. There’s no where you can go to… unless you’re thinking of taking your brother’s place. But even if you want to, you shouldn’t. You’re unique ability with a sword-†“Should be used and not hidden,†Mareo interrupted. “What?†Idate looked at Mareo confused. “You’ve never been able to beat me because Zangetsu and I have a special ‘connection’. I’m not a good swordsman from practice, you’re the only practice I ever do, I just am. I don’t understand it any more than you do. So I’m going out there,†Mareo pointed towards the gates of Genko. “And I’m gonna figure out what’s wrong with me. And I’m going to do something about this war.†“Mareo, you’re in over your head. You can’t ‘do something’ about a war. Just let the army deal with it.†Idate insisted. “The only thing the army is doing is exterminating the Hybrids! They aren’t solving anything! So talk all you want, but it won’t do any good. I’m going whether you like it or not.†Mareo opened the door and went inside, feeling Niwa at his feet. “Then I want to help you,†Idate followed them inside. “No; you’ve got to stay here and cover for me.†Mareo led Idate to his room. He pulled out a backpack from under his bed. “You can’t tell anyone about Zangetsu, okay?†Mareo grabbed his guitar and went to the kitchen. “Uh, okay,†Idate watched Mareo fill the pack with water and bread. “I know you’ve never liked the war, but what are you planning on doing?†“I met a Hybrid girl on my walk,†Mareo closed the pack. “She’s from the village we destroyed three months ago. I’m gonna help her. If we work together, we can do more than we can do alone.†He headed “What am I supposed to tell your dad? I don’t think he’ll like your Hybrid story.†Idate shut the door behind Niwa. “Tell him that I’ve taken Takeshi’s place,†Mareo felt bad about the lie, but it was the most believable. He slung his guitar over his shoulder. I can’t let this go on anymore. I know we won’t stop until the Hybrids are totally whipped out. He stopped at the gates. “I got it,†Idate put a hand on Mareo’s shoulder. “Be careful.†“Are you getting soft on me?†Mareo playfully punched Idate’s arm. “I’ll be back.†“You better be. I still have to beat you,†Idate smile weakly. He hugged Mareo and then took a step back. “Get going.†Mareo smiled. “Come on, Niwa.†He and Niwa began walking northeast towards the army.
