Now that his departure from office is ever nearing, how do you think that history will view Bush?

I don't think that history will look upon him favorably. He made many mistakes in office, from the war in Iraq to today's bailout.

I can see him being remembered as one of the most controversial presidents. There's a lot of good things he did, and a lot of huge mistakes he made. Plus there's only a small percentage of Americans that approve of him anymore. I don't think history will look on him badly...I mean obviously we reelected him for 4 more years. That only happens to a few presidents.

He was going to be seen as the guy who started the horrible Iraq war, but then the economy went downhill, so now that's probably going to be the basis of most of his reputation.

Was that not because the Republican party cheated?

He will be remembered by his mistakes and screw ups. Simple as that. Although, it does depend on who records the history.

I imagine his reputation will consist of...

    1. Destroying the dollar, ruining the budget and likewise the economy.

    2. Engaging in an illegal war.

I know he's done SOME good things, but his mistakes largely out weigh his improvements.

Don't forget the blocking/vetoing of important stem cell research.

History will remember George W. Bush as, at the very least, controversial.

When mistakes outweigh the good things, we forget about the good things and focus on the bad. Bush made alot of mistakes, ones that are now costing the American population dearly, and that's how history will remember him.

He did make many mistakes. However, remember this: President doesn't have all of the authority. If he did, he would be King George W. Bush. This is a democracy, not a monarchy.

Congress, republicans and democrats alike, caused this 'depression'. Bush had some involvement. Congress had the most.

Did President Bush fly those planes into the World Trade Center? No. So quit saying he 'started the war'.

    Find me some evidence.

Yes, he made a lot of mistakes (the Bailout, the way he handled the Iraq War, etc.), and he definitely will be put down on the list of bad presidents, however he isn't the worst. Jimmy Carter beats Bush in sucking at being president.

You're right on that. Jimmy Carter was too busy impressing foreign countries than trying to lead our own.

watch the movie 'black box voting'. that, my friend, is your evidence. as for our worst president, Stephen Colbert says it's Warren G. Harding, and I find myself compelled to agree.

See the new movie,"W." It shows that George thought he was a hero, but in reality, there was nothing to be a hero of.

How Will history view George Bush?

there's a movie about him, there are multiple games teasing him, etc etc. We can safely say that we's going to go down as one of the worst(if not the worst) presidents America has ever known

I doubt it he'll be remember as a good president. He'll be remembered as the president that started the Iraq War.Then the economy dropping.I'm sure he's done some good things but he did some hug mistakes. Those mistakes will give him a not so good reputation.

We've already forgiven him. He'll be treated like a hero entering Valhalla once he's not around to make himself look like a brain dead monkey through his error ridden speech. In all seriousness though, I don't think anyone will hate the guy twenty years from now. They'll still be blaming everything on Carter and the guy they let into office, if we still have elections twenty years from now of course. Anyways, none of the presidents we learn about in history classes are looked at with any scorn or disapproval no matter how bad their mistakes were, I don't see a change in trends coming; and I honestly doubt people learn much more than what they get from school their entire lives so he will be no exception.

I was talking about it more from a history and histroians in general, not a history class kind of thing because everything we learn in school regards presidents with respect.

Not to get off topic, but Bill Clinton started this economic crisis. Though Bush certainly didn't help. >_>
