I've got a problem. I need to find the mac address of another computer without actually being in physical contact with it. Under finder it says "Shared" then the Computer's name. If I knew a password to the other computer, I could screen share, but I don't. Using this information, how do I find its mac address?

I have admin on my computer, and am running a mac, as is the other computer.

Do you have the ip adress of this computer? Can you find it? It would make things a lot easier.

From a mac on the same network as it, how could I discover its IP address? Would it be in an email from said computer?

Yes, yes. An e-mail would work. See how you can find the ip adress of the sender:
Click here if the e-mail was sent to gmail, yahoo or hotmail account.
Click here if the e-mail was sent to microsoft outlook.

Yep, I think I've found the IP address. It's one of two, so I can just trial and error them when they're mac addresses.

How would I go about converting IP addresses to mac addresses?

Oh oops mistake... Here, do this:

    1.Open a Terminal window.
2.Type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, replacing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with the IP address of the computer who's MAC address you want to display
3.After the ping response has finished, type arp -a
4.The resulting output displays the IP address and a corresponding MAC address

It hasn't finished and has been going for around 10 minutes. It's on its 3000th line. I think something's wrong here...

Just tried Arp -a in a new window. It worked. Pinging was unneeded.

I'll try spoofing my way on using the mac address later. I need to restart now because for some reason my terminal refuses to let me spoof a second time.

Thanks, the mac worked after a few tries. You were a great help.
