There is this one guy in my pre-calc class who hasn't paid attention in hardly any classes, he talks all the time, he doesn't do the homework, and he says that it is the teachers fault that he doesn't understand the material.

He had to make up a test today because he had a 56 average with a 0 test grade. I would think that almost any person who knew that their grade was on the line and it was a matter of passing or failing the class would not socialize, but rather pay complete attention to the the test. He didn't do that, he talked to everyone else. A couple of times he asked the teacher why his grade was as low as it was, and she said it was because he hadn't taken a test yet, he didn't know that he had to make up a test despite the fact that the test he was making up was right in front of him. I could go on and on about how terrible of a student this guy is, but suffice it to say he doesn't pay any attention at all to what teachers say, and then he wonders why he has a bad grade.

Anyway, he left about 20 minutes before class ended and no one knew where he went. After a while we found out that he had gone to the office to get "spiritual guidance" about what to do about the situation he is in.
He went to the office to get someone to pray for or with him.

If being religious is not taking responsibility for your mistakes, praying to find the answer to a question when the answer is right in front of you, and praying in favor of doing all that possibly can be done to fix or help whatever situation you are in, then I'm not religious.

Now that is something I never thought I'd ever read about thanks for that Below I needed a good laugh.
Although I do think you should have given this thread a different title. It would have been better to title it something like "This religious Idiot from my class"

lol dunno what religion you're basing this off of. Maybe I don't know my religious faiths too well, but I don't know of religion that doesn't teach its members they are responsible for their mistakes.

By the sounds of it the guy only did it because he's desperate. Desperate people will pray even when its out of character for them.

Haven't we realized that a bunch of teenagers talking about things they don't have an idea about is always a bad idea on this website?

laughing at someone because they're praying for help is pretty cool.

seriously though, he obviously doesn't know what he's doing in class is wrong and that he needs help from someone he looks up to. i don't understand how that is a laughing matter and you're making atheists look bad by posting this thread

Atheists can be dumb or coo coo for cocoa puffs too, the gods don' t own the copyrights on every magical or moronic thinking out there.

Same as yours, the kind that suggests praying problems away might work.

My catechism teachers. They didn' t say it would, they said it might. What were you told prayer was for ?
Oh, and if you believe in prayer then praying for your health or hearing someone say that he' ll pray for your health can have a slight placebo effect.

Thread title is stupid, but this guy is stupider.

I'm a bad student, but at least if I'm on the line I at the very least TRY to get it up.

  19. Agreed.
Welcome to the Las Vegas Education System.
If you try your hardest, you shall not faultier under the pressure of a meaningless alphabet consisting of A,B,C,D,F, or the minus counterparts. That being said, I never allow myself to have bad grades, since I need to go to College(My mother being the only reason I am) and hopefully a decent life. But by that time, Texas will be the Republic of Texas and California will be drifting off into the Pacific.

You're implying atheists are by default smart and religious people are stupid.
    No.
Most great scientists had faith in something.

Praying gives you an inner hope. Hope leads to better mood. Better mood leads to better work.
That's science and religion coming together when done right.
