Help with a riddle

I need help with a riddle I can't get.

There are 9 chicks. There are four pens to put the chicks in. the number of chicks inside each pen must be uneven.

How do you do this? It's drivin me crazy!

 

When you say uneven, you mean that there can't be two pens with the exact same number of chicks?

 

No, it means like an odd number. This is actually from my tech class.....the only clue my teach gives me is that the pens do not have to be the same size..... (0 is, according to my teach, an even number)

And yes, all chicks must be in pen. also, they cannot be cut up

 

do you also have to use all the pens.
if not, it's three in each pen.

Chick: The baby chickens, not girls crono...
Pen: An enclosed area.

The "square" counts as one big pen, with the three "triangles" being the other three pens. Three chicks per pen.
