Go to the User CP on that bar that's near the top of the page. Then on your left, you'll see the "Edit Avatar" option.

Of course, if you mean that you need help CREATING an avatar, check out the sig shops. They should be more than happy to do one for you. ;)

To be more specific, Go to User CP. On the top toolbar, go to Edit Avatar. If you have it saved on your documents click browse and search for it. Or put the link of the picture in the link bar.
There's a limit to how big it can be. It'll resize itself if it's too big though.

    I'll get a mod/admin to close this.

It's better to use a photo hosting site, though.

Usually the uploading directly from the computer doesn't work. So it's best to use Photobucket, Deviantart or something similar.

And no, it doesn't always resize itself. It'll just prevent you from using it.

Oh, and if you want to make avatars. Use Photoshop or Gimp. Gimp is free by the way.

I've got a question. you'll see that my avatar is not doing anything, and thus looks incredibly stupid. But my avatar is a GIF, and it should be doing something. is there anything i can do to fix this problem?

When viewing the properties of your avatar, it says it's a JPEG image. Which would explain why it's not doing anything.

You probably just saved it as a JPEG by accident.

Rename the avatar to a .gif and it should work right again. Or find the original .gif pic and link that instead if that fails.

No, it doesn't work that easily... At least it shouldn't. You see .jpg can't handle layers, which .gif uses to make the animation..

*facepalm* That wasn't necrobumping.. As he asked a perfectly valid question. Not completely off-topic, yet not totally on-topic. Not necro.
