I once pretended to be a Japanese girl living in America. I kept the guy enthralled for a loooooong time with a story that I just made up as I went. It was awesome. And he never once acted like a pervert.

You: Hi! I'm Minako! What's your name?
Stranger: Hello Minako! My name is Hampus.
You: That's an odd name.
Stranger: Yeah, like Minako isn't.
You: Well I'm Japanese in ethnicity, so to me it isn't.
Stranger: How nice. And Hampus is not that odd to me.
You: I guess.
You: But can we both agree that neither of our names are mundane or boring?
Stranger: Hahah yeah sure.
Stranger: Do you live in America?
You: Yeah.
Stranger: Thought so.
You: And it's actually a really interesting story as to how I got here.
Stranger: Yeah? :) Tell me.
You: Well, my great grandmother died in the bombing on Hiroshima while my grandparents were away in Kyotou.
Stranger: :/
You: When they heard the news, they were devastated and angry at the Americans, but when they had my parents they realized that the bombings actually saved a lot of Japanese lives.
You: And I'm talking about all four of my grandparents, not just two.
You: That'd be incest, which is kinda eww.
Stranger: Hahaha.
You: Anyway, my parents met as children and were set to be married later on in their lives.
You: You might not think so, but the arrangement was almost like a match made in Heaven. They fell in love as teens years before either knew what was going on.
Stranger: :)
You: Anyway, my parents later moved here to America as a way to sort of forgive them.
You: But unfortunately my mom died in childbirth and my dad died of cancer a few months later.
Stranger: I'm sorry to hear that :/
You: So I was put into an orphanage, where my parents found me.
You: They mostly adopted me out of guilt, because one of them was descended from the guy who indirectly killed my great grandmother.
You: Later on they found out that my great grandma was actually living in Hiroshima, and told me about that.
You: And that's my story.
Stranger: Wow.
Stranger: That is an interesting story :)
Stranger: How do you feel about all that?
You: I think it's really great that I have such history just behind my existence.
You: If all four of my grandparents hadn't all been in Kytotou years before any of them met, I wouldn't be here today.
You: And now, in a twist of fate that's almost like a movie, my adoptive grandpa is the one who killed my grandma.
You: It's just one of those things that you just can't make up, you know?
Stranger: Yeah, that's fascinating.
Stranger: It really is.
Stranger: I've never heard anything like it.
You: Yeah.
You: I'm actually surprised nobody in Hollywood has thought of this concept.
Stranger: Hahah yes.
Stranger: That would make a good movie.
You: Uhuh.
Stranger: But I don't think USA is very proud of the Hiroshima bombing, right?
You: It really depends on how you look at it.
You: On one hand, a lot of my people died...
You: But on the other hand, WAY MORE would have died if the emperor hadn't told them to stop.
You: And it's mainly because the Japanese war mentality at the time was "Win or die."
You: So I for one am thankful for it. Even if my great grandmother did die, she didn't die in vein because the bombing led to our surrender, which saved millions of lives in Japan.
You: *vain
Stranger: I guess you're right.
Stranger: But still...
You: It wasn't a bad thing. It's okay to feel bad about it, without the disasters at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there would probably be no Japan today.
You: *<but without>
Stranger: Okay, I understand :) Don't know much about what was going on between Japan and America.
You: Well basically, America wanted to take prisoners, but the Japanese "soldiers" would rather have killed themselves than be taken prisoner. So that's what they did.
You: But when the emperor said it was okay to surrender, they listened.
Stranger: I see. Is that what a kamikaze is?
You: Not really.
You: Kamikaze is more like what happened at 9/11
Stranger: Aha.
You: They'd find a target with a lot of people, and then send one person in a plane to crash into it.
Stranger: Okay. Did the Japs come up with that idea?
You: It's a pretty old idea, but my homeland more or less codified it before it (a) was deprived of a military and (b) were told by the Emperor that it was okay to surrender.
You: In other words, the bombs were the slap in the face we needed to turn around and become one of the greatest countries in the worlds, right up there with America, China, and (arguably) Canada.
You: *<in the world>
Stranger: Okay. Thanks for teaching me this :) In what sense is Japan a great country? Economically?
You: That, and they have some of the smartest people in the world too.
Stranger: Yes, that's true.
You: That, and they're probably the best equipped in the world to deal with an earthquake like the one that occurred in March.
Stranger: Yeah, I'm sure they are.
You: Just imagine how much worse it would have been if the earthquake had hit just one more time zone to the west.
Stranger: Would that have been between Japan and China?
You: Probably.
You: Or, depending on latitude, near the Philippines.
Stranger: Yes, I guess that's more likely.
You: But I'm not all that great in geography, so I don't know for sure.
You: And yeah, see?
Stranger: Yes.
Stranger: But I don't agree that Canada is great. Germany is greater.
Stranger: The UK too.
You: Well you must admit that Canada has a great national anthem.
Stranger: Haha.
You: Too bad it doesn't play very much at the Olympics.
Stranger: Only in hockey.
You: That's in the Olympics?
Stranger: Yeah, icehockey.
You: I thought the Olympics were mostly one on one sports.
Stranger: That too.
You: Or, you know, very small teams.
You: Huh. Learn something new every day.
Stranger: Yeah :) I only follow the hockey in the winter olympics.
Stranger: They don't have football in summer olympics though.
You: Eh, I don't like American Football anyway.
You: I'm actually more into lacrosse.
Stranger: I meant soccer.
Stranger: I like lacrosse too.
You: Ah. That's better, but still not quite my thing.
You: And yeah, I know.
Stranger: I don't like soccer either.
You: It's a great sport, and nothing beats the feeling of the sun shining on my sweaty cheeks after a game.
You: Eh, I could go either way on it really.
Stranger: Hahah.
You: Anyway, I need to go pack up.
You: I've got a plane to catch in twelve hours, so I need to get on that.
Stranger: Okay, do so :)
You: Bye.
Stranger: Take care.
Stranger: Bye.
