Curiosity has gotten the better of me. I've been tempted to buy Guitar Hero for a while now but there is of course Rock band.

Is there any significant difference between the two?

Get Rock Band In all honesty.
Has a ton of good songs. 104 on Rock Band 2 (84 on disc and 20 for free download) and 67 on Rock Band 1.
With Guitar Hero 4 having 86 and Guitar Hero 5 85.
Better graphics. Over 800 songs available for download for 0.79€ - 1.49€ a piece.
    The Charts are more acurate.
Now if you really like the Layout of Guitar Hero better you can go get that.
the cool thing about Guitar hero is, that it let's you use double bass drum.
I think Rock Band looks a lot better though.
The Story Mode is a lot better in Rock Band though.
Also you can rent the first Rock Band and import all songs from it except for 3, this will cost you about 4€ though.
Same goes for track packs although you can import all of them for free.
Guitar Hero dlc is also available. But it's 2€ per piece.
And you can only export about half of Guitar Hero 4's Songs to GH5.
Rock Band is a lot cheaper than then Guitar Hero 5 aswell.
My Rock Band dlc is telling you to get Rock Band.

Sorry, i should've mentioned i'm only interested in the guitar only versions. So, i'm stuck for either Guitar Hero 5 or The Beatles: Rock Band.

I would recommend GH5 over The Beatles rockband. Unless you're into them to a good degree, you might get bored with it. Just my opinion. I love Metallica, and I got the guitar hero, and I got bored with it once or twice, so maybe the fact of paying the same band over and over again might get be boring to you if you aren't into the band as much as most people are. If you have a best buy in your area, I suggest you go to see if they have both games as demos, because the one in my area had both.

Rock Band 2. I got Guitar Hero World Tour, played it for a few weeks, and never touched it again. Rock Band has kept me hooked with it's ever-expanding awesome library of fun songs, has much funner charts for every instrument, looks a lot better aesthetically, and ability to capture the experience of being a band , rather than just a solo artist, better than Guitar Hero ever will.

The songs in World Tour's creator mode are midi quality, with non-authentic sounding instruments and no vocals. Not much fun from my experience :\

However, if you're torn between Guitar Hero 5 and The Beatles Rock Band, it really comes down to if you're a fan of the Beatles. Guitar Hero 5 has seemingly redeemed the series, while The Beatles Rock Band really brings players together for the true band feeling as they progress through the Beatles' career.

It's really a matter of preference, really. I like both, but Guitar Hero tends to overchart songs on Expert, so I lean towards that because I like playing crazy solo sh*t on the guitar. But, I'm trying to get better at the drums, so I play Rock Band with my friend and he'd play drums. It's all about what you want to get out of the game. But I would definitly say Rock Band for it's song diversity.

All of Dream Theater's songs in Rock Band are tons more difficult than just about any of the songs in Guitar Hero World Tour or 5. 3 doesn't count because they charted keyboard parts for guitar in "Through the Fire and Flames", making it a lot harder than it actually would be. Harmonix weren't being lazy; they were sticking to how the song is really played.

And if you really want difficulty, there's always 3 songs by Yngwie Malmsteen.

But you do have a point with the larger number of recognizable songs. Rock Band tries to be more varied I guess.

There's only 2 DT songs on RB sadly. ):
But really If you look at songs like Caprici di diablo, Thrasher, Constant Motion, Visions GH has nothing as challenging.
I could get through every GH song on expert with hardly any dificulty.
    But Rock Band?
I don't think so. Just thinking of the mess in Caprici or Visions makes me want to bang my head against something.
There's a lot of crazy drum songs aswell.

As someone who owns Guitar Hero 4, Guitar Hero 5, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles Rock Band, I can safely say that Rock Band is far superior. Rock Band's charting is far better since Harmonix, a company run by musicians, having far more experience with rhythm games knows more about how the songs go. The only rhythm games Activision has done are the Guitar Hero games and it shows. Timing is off here and there, songs are overcharted (especially with Guitar Hero III), they make you play keyboard (Though The Fire and Flames), piano (Sympathy for the Devil) and trumpet (Superstition) parts on guitar and they couldn't even give the bass player the right animation until Guitar Hero 5 (before, in Guitar Hero III and Aerosmith, the bassist would exclusively slap, which is rarely used for anything that isn't jazz, pop or funk and in Guitar Hero IV, Metallica and Smash Hits, the bassist would exclusively use a pick, which isn't so much as inaccurate as much as it is lazy since it was the exact same animation as the guitarist.)

Not to mention the FAR bigger song selection, the fact that Rock Band expansions aren't full price like Guitar Hero expansions.

Hell, if I compared the games year by year, Rock Band 1 was better than Guitar Hero III, Rock Band 2 was better than Guitar Hero IV and The Beatles Rock Band is better than Guitar Hero 5.

Also, Guitar Hero 5 says "**** you" to anyone who wants a full band online or in career. Everything is set up like the game's party mode which means anyone can play any instrument. Bassists are pretty much non-existant, vocalists are almost as rare, drummers are uncommon and most games will be four guitarists. For extra laziness, any two characters on the same instrument will have the EXACT same animation which only makes sense for a handful of songs (the only one that comes to mind where the band moving in sync isn't odd is Rammstein's Du Hast.)

well, Guitar Hero seems to be mostly concentrated on guitar only.

Rock band offers a diverse range of instruments, bass, guitar and drums and vocal. Each can have solos.

So, both are equally fun, but Rock Band is slightly more challenging.

Eh. Personally, Guitar Hero has one up on Rock Band.(Last one I played was Guitar Hero 3 though.XDX) Rock Band 2 kinda ticks me off because...you can't have a second guitarist. Seriously. Personally, I think they failed big time with Master Exploder and Chop Suey. Those were perfect songs to have a second guitar instead of a bass. Eh. And Master Exploder feels easier to play irl than on Rock Band. @-@ But...eh...as a package and for DLC, Rock Band is better. If you're like me and...well...like guitars more than other instruments, Guitar Hero does wipe the floor with Rock Band(screw you bass! >8D).

Yeah because 700+ songs totally sucks on guitar compared to guitar hero 3's 70ish.

Bought RB plus two guitars for 60 quid. 8D I was lookin' through the RB download list, some crackin' songs to choose from. Sadly, can't play till tomorrow. D:

I'll probably pick up RB2 soon (if i enjoy the first one) then The Beatles once it lowers in price.

I've played both and personally I enjoy Rock Band more than Guitar Hero. It's easier to hit keys on it than Guitar Hero plus you can have solos for the other instruments while Guitar Hero emphasizes more on the guitar solos. Oh! and there's The Beatles Rock Band~ 8DD

That's actually true. Quality, not quantity(like I said before. Two guitars>Guitar+Bass...depending on the song but at least Guitar Hero has it. Unlike the second "guitarist" always being forced to be a bass player in Rock Band). Besides, my personal taste is more suited towards Guitar Hero. Although I find both games...well...I can have a lot more fun playing an actual guitar.
