Here's some pretty interesting news, which can be taken as either good or bad.

Personally, I like how the customers can make things happen, such as not having tolkien elements.
However, according to some people, they don't like this because Sony gave the developers the freedom to be creative.

I read this a while ago and have discussed it already. I'm not the slightest suprised by this, Uncharted has some rather obvious elements from Gears of War (the cover system for example). HOWEVER, I think that they set out more to take what those "gritty Xbox shooters" did and fix it, Next-gen filter anyone?

I would personally rather have them do what they initially wanted, I'm a pretty huge fan of the older Naughty Dog games, but I really doubt that if they had free reins that they would make such a sucessful franchise.

I do wish that they can go back to that initial idea that they have though, the gaming business needs more variety nowadays. Before someone says anything, yes Uncharted is unique, but nothing compared to something like the Jak franchise, y'know?

I fully agree with you. I keep trying shooters wanting to like them, but I just don't. I can tolerate some, and there are some cool plotlines that make me want to watch someone else play it. But they just aren't me. But they are what is popular so they are a ton of what is being made.

Now I haven't played Uncharted myself so I can't speak too much, but I agree with Christhor in that despite the fact that I would prefer it as a fantasy game, the franchise would likely not be as successful as it is today had they kept that.

This is quite nice to hear, as it shows that the big name companies care about the people they're making games for.

I'm surprised to see that a series like Uncharted could've been more of a fantasy game, considering that i've always known it as a more realistic action/adventure game.

You might want to give Uncharted a go, it has a lot of shooter elements, but it's not exactly a shooter, more of an action adventure. It also has a lot of climbing around, which is probably the trade mark of the game, the second one has some (pretty basic) stealth and the series as a whole has some pretty puzzles that are mostly easy, but really helps break up the action a bit. The series also has a great story. It might just be what could get you into the shooter genre that is all the fuzz lately.

And just to clearify, I'd would rather have it as the more fantasy-esque game due to that being what the developers initially wanted, and if the developers wanted it then I imagine it would have had more passion behind it, which is a great thing when it comes to game development.

you should give it a try. I've played the second, and it's pretty good. I would just go to every person and knock them around. It was more fun than grabbing a gun and shooting them. But it's a pretty good fantasy game.

I'm not a fan of the Uncharted games myself, I had a go and it's not my cup of tea. But I think that either idea would have sold to two different audiences. I mean, as much as people love one type of game, there'll be others who prefer a different one. I'd probably go for the original idea more than the actual Uncharted myself, but that's just cause I prefer fantasy to the constantly flood of shooters. To me, I saw Uncharted as Tomb Raider with a guy and less tombs.

Speaking of variety, I wouldn't mind a lot more original ideas breaking through. I'm not a fan of indie games (since they all seem to be shifting to mostly iPad/iPhone games), but they do have a lot more originality than the most recent AAA games. Although, sometimes you don't want your favourite series to change to much, hence what could be one of the many reasons originality has gone out the window a bit more than we'd like. Either way, I'm not too bothered as long as I enjoy the game. But it wouldn't hurt to make some of these online multiplayer games have an option to be played in offline multiplayer with a friend. It's getting a bit silly now how a lot of games that could easily have an offline multiplayer and an online multiplayer in the same game don't.

tl;dr: I rambled a bit but my first post is still ontopic, I think.

This is what I hate about the video game business. Almost every game that comes out now is a clone of ether Gears or CoD. It's gotten so repetitive that the real gems are buried underneath all the clones.

This my friends is what drove me to almost cease playing video games all together aside from KH and whatever DBZ game Bandai/Namco release that year.

Then maybe it's just me. But the needless gimmick addition of Kinect and Move to titles just feels tacked on and little to no effort went into it. If you like that fine but that's just how I feel.
