Who do you think are the greatest band of this decade? I like Mastodon because they have old school sounds and resurrected the real guitar solo. Their work is more than just music as well, its the art and the story with each album that makes it a great listen!

    Linkin Park, no doubt.
I've yet to hear one song that doesn't amaze me

Cauterize is a close second(but they're long gone)

Does Nine Inch Nails count as from this decade? Cause The Fragile is like, the best album I've ever heard.

I'd say they count, even though The Fragile isn't really this decade (1999).
But yeah, NIN is probably a contender too.

I think I broke a record of how quickly I can facepalm at a thread within milliseconds of opening it.

Linkin park never made anything groundbreaking, and in my opinion, shouldn't recieve the amount of attention they get. If anything, they just glorified the nu metal genre by adding angsty-teen rhyming to whiny vocals and added a bunch of hip hop-esque SFX. They've never done anything Korn(Though I believe Korn are far, FAR more superior), Limp biskit, Deftones and any other generic nu metal band haven't done before.

Ranting aside, I find it really hard to single out a band from all the others I like from this decade. I'd say children of bodom, but they were around in the ninties also, and their latest albums have been getting worse. So I'll probably go with equilibrium, none of ther songs have ever bored me. Ever. They'd be the first band I'd recommend to someone who wants to get into more genres.

First post that made since. XD Linkin Park, I have to admit sounds good but...honestly, the lead singer right now is their best member.

Breaking Benjamin, Red, and Tenacious D(it's almost like a new Metallica! ...To me.) are probably the best bands for me. Buuut...it depends on taste. Papa Roach is pretty good too. >> I dunno, although Red's my favorite band, Breaking Benjamin and Tenacious D are probably better...and they probably have more skill.

Even as a fan of Linkin Park, I can say they're far from being this decade's best. Their lyrics are pretty easy to come up with, and their instrumental work isn't that difficult either. I think their best talents are combining their (pretty simple) raw material with just enough distortion and effects.

Muse, Red, Rise Against, Foo Fighters (90's, but whatever), Tenacious D (really late 90's), and Mars Volta (don't have alot of their stuff, but they're still really good) are much better choices.

Also, Papa Roach's new album is meh I've heard.

And if anyone dares say Nickelback...

Even though its entirely subjective, I opt to say that it is impossible to decide on the "best" band of this decade, or any decade for that matter. There are far too many bands out there, both good and bad. Great bands like Machinae Supremacy, Galneryus and Derdian are horribly offset by garbage like DragonForce, Fall Out Boy and damn near every POS metalcore and pop-punk band that started to jump on the emo bandwagon. Too many people will argue in favor of the garbage, but even if there was no such thing as "bad," there are far too many choices to determine a "best" band.

However, if technical skill is all that is taken into account, my vote goes to Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. Buckethead has near perfect mastery of the guitar and Les Claypool has near perfect mastery of the bass, plus an insanely skilled keyboardist and an insanely skilled drummer...

Aerosmith still makes music and they even do a great job remixing and remaking, right? I say AEROSMITH ALL THE WAY! :D That is my ALL TIME favorite band! Go Aerosmith!!

To Cloud, Dragonforce has great talent being able to move that fast and that upbeat and still kinda sound like music. I don't hate their music, don't love, don't dislike it either. But seriously, even if it makes you guys COMPLETELY fudge your brain, PLAY MORE MUSIC, NOT SUPER FAST! Fall Out Boy, I don't see why you dislike them, honestly. I think they're great with the big singer. The emo one makes the music horrible. The big guy, he's EPIC!

To Jonas Brothers lovers, they are OK. I mean if they weren't Disney sponsored and didn't think that they were all cool. I'd like them. The only one that I have any liking for(not the gay kinda liking. I mean as a dude) is Nick. The curly haired guy that ACTUALLY cares about his music and girls ACTUALLY like and he NEVER EVER thinks to much of himself. *hides*

DragonForce only has speed and even then, its mostly three chord nonsense. Hermann Li and Sam Totman are very talented, but they waste it by playing the same basic stuff in every song. Their bassist may as not even be there and their vocalist is terrible live.

Its been known through out the history of rock that people will play fast because they can't play well.

If you want speed that takes skill, look up Yngwei Malmsteen's Rising Force and Galneryus.
Patrick Stump sounds exactly like any other modern pop-punk singer. Seriously, compare Fall Out Boy to Panic at the Disco, Rufio and All Time Low. They all sound the same. Add to it the totally useless "bassist" who uses less than half of his instrument in any given song and nothing special guitarist and drummer. Their real problem is that not only do they do nothing special, what they do is the same as half of the other bands out there. Like them all you want, but at least acknowledge that they don't do anything special.

Again, I reinforce my opinion that if skill and talent is ALL that is taken into account: Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains.
