I'm sorry, but I just have to laugh a bit at this. Robberies... over something stupid? Okay, then. Then again, I don't think this is really anything new.

Yeah it' s nothing new. When cellphones weren' t around it was credit cards, jewelry or, well, money. Those are still going on.

It might seem stupid to you, but the fact that they' re willing to hurt or outright kill for it should tell you how desperate they are. A few years ago I was working at a mall. One day I saw a kid walking around with a "petition" on the parking lot. His French was awful. He asked me if I could smuggle a banana from my workplace. The discussion went south, then my boss showed up and kicked him out. I realized later on he was probably a victim of modern slavery, had I known sooner I would have bought him ten bananas and freaking cookies.

Traffics, human or not, are hard to track down because, like the article says, they ignore borders. To counter their inefficiency some governments are trying to shift the legal blame on the end buyers. My country just shot down a law proposal suggesting to fine hookers clients.

The "stupid" comment was toward those robbing, just to clarify.

It seems like the more technologically advanced society gets, the more the government has to get involved, often to the public's discontent.
