This mainly applies for fantasy, sci-fi, etc.'

When reading a word, I tend to kind of just skim over it... like in my head, i would say something like, "Lokar took up his sword and slashed blebabah, the mighty dragon, in half."

I thought it was weird. And then I try to read the actual word and I can never pronounce correctly/the same every time.

Does anyone else seem to do this?

I used to be very bad for that. Now, as daft as it may sound, i try to read aloud. N' if i see a word i don't know i write it down n' look it up.

You mean like a weird name or something? I usually try to sound it out. If it's really weird I'll just kind of replace it in my mind with a similar name/word. It used to happen to me often, but not really at all anymore.

    ah, sorry, my bad.

Aye, i'd usually try n' sound it out as well. But if it really bothers me i'll ask other folk's opinion.

No I'm stubborn and I will not continue to read unless I say it right. That or I skip and go back to it later and look up it's definition. -is a dork-

o_o That's never happened to me. I just read super fast in my head but slow when I speak it.

If it's a really weird name, I just come up with a nickname for the person by shortening their name. (Like Xehanort. I just called him Norty)

But if all else fails, I resort to "What's her/his face"

Yes, sometimes there are some really weird names of people/places/etc. in books and the first few times I read it I always skim over the name, still knowing who they are referring too. It's usually by the middle of the book for me when I start to actually pronounce the way the name is actually said as I read. It's always been a habit for me.

or in the series, in which i mispronounced a word Quillian though it was Quillan.

But I didn't do the thing that I asked about here.

I do tend to skim over words, but that's only because I read quite fast. For example, I learn something new every time I play a KH game, because I just rush through.

Hmmm...No, I don't have that. When I see a weird unfamiliar word or name I try to come up with a pronunciation that I find suitable and hold on to that throughout the entire book.

if its a really weird name then i would just say it how i want it to sound like xD
makes it more intresting and also helps me imagine how the character would look like.

I come up with my own way of saying it, which as someone already touched upon, is then shattered when a movie adaptation is made. I have a strange feeling that I did that with something in Harry Potter, but I can't remember what.

I just pick a pronunciation that sounds about right and stick with that. I used to replace it with something easier. Like if the name was Nobusuke from The Man in the High Castle, good Sci-Fi book btw, in my head it would be Norman.
